[WIN8] Installing Win8 with an OEM keyHas anyone made or found a topic on how to install Win8 with an OEM key? I own a Samsung laptop and it came with Win8 (not the pro version) preinstalled and I copied the recovery partition to a USB stick so I can boot off of it to do a recovery. BUT I would rather have a DVD of Windows 8 so I can do a clean install if needed. I've been searching around and it is a known fact that Win8 will not accept OEM keys? Actually I would much rather have an 8.1 ISO if an Win 8 product key will work with it. |

'The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different key.'
Awweee.. It doesn't like the embedded BIOS key. Windows 8 Upgrade (Digital Download) is out.
UEFI mode changed to UEFI/CSM. Now I'm going to try CSM mode.
I went to the secure boot settings and disabled everything. Hope that works. And nothing. oh well. Reset to setup defaults and exit. |

That's funny. Maybe I have the wrong ISO? 'The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different key'. But the funny thing is I don't even get a chance to enter a key. |

Which ISO do you have? Did you verify the hash? When you're asked to input the key is it at the beginning of the set up or is it near the end of the install?

I realized I was using booting off of the Win 8 Update digital download. I am downloading those now. |

Add the ei.cfg file to the sources folder. Open up notepad and paste the below into it. Save it as ei.cfg. -------------------------------------- [EditionID]
[Channel] OEM [VL] 0 -------------------------------------- |
|
|
Could I replace the original \sources\install.wim with the install.wim from the recovery partition? That way I can get all the device drivers installed as well? That way I have my own recovery disk? |

There is a difference in the kernel so probably not |

The ISO is 5.42GB, that is not going to fit on a 4.7GB DVD. :O |

So will the embedded key in the BIOS work with 8.1 even though the system came with Win 8? I wonder if the newly created 8.1 image will work with my key, or maybe I have to make another one but use the Win 8 steps? |

In my case, I created a 32 bit all in one (minus Enterprise) and a 64 bit all in one (again, minus enterprise). I then ended up with 2 iso files. The 32 bit one is 3.13 GB in size, and the 64 bit one is 4.21 GB in size. --Brian |

A question about this....
I have a RETAIL (so not OEM) DVD for Windows 8.0 Professional with license key. If I get my hands on a retail copy of Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.1 Update, would my key work? |
|
|
It should because when I get the 8.1 update from the store while running 8, I get no key issues. Maybe doing a clean install with 8.1 is different? I don't see why it should be though, maybe others might know. |

Yep. You can do it through the store but anyone wishing to do a clean install is deliberately screwed by Microsoft unless you have a RETAIL copy of windows 8. |

» dellwindowsreinstallatio ··· 8-1-iso/This is not just for Dell. If you have a retail copy of Windows 8 your key will work to do a clean install of 8.1 from ISO. If you only have OEM Windows 8 key it is possible to do a clean install of 8.1 but you have to use generic keys and some tricks. It's SICK what Microsoft did to ALL those who have OEM Windows 8. |

Darn, I just downloaded all the 8.1 ISO's and made the 8.1 AIO from that one post. |

I got in to the recovery partitions on the laptop hard drive and in the first one there is an 430mb boot.wim file and Samsung's WinClon program. I guess that has something to do with recovery? In the 2nd partition there is a 15gb install.wim file and I'm going to copy it over to the NAS drive and open it up with the Windows System Image Manager program and see what it does. |
