Click for full size
i am installing photoshop cs4 on another machine and configuring it to use more memory. however, photoshop is only recognizing 2 gb of ram. it does recognize the graphics cards, however. shouldn't photoshop be able to use more ram?

CS4 is pretty old...it may not be working right with 10.9.x relative to memory. Did you check for compatibility notes at the Adobe site?

Pretty sure CS4 on a Mac is 32-bit only. You would need to run the 64-bit software, which was introduced with CS5.

Yes, I know it says 'can use more than 4Gb, but the 2810 it's recognizing is close enough to to the 3GB barrier for 32 bit, I'm not surprised it's a little off.

As others have suggested, this is almost certainly because you are running a 32-bit edition of Photoshop. I believe these were limited to 2 GB of RAM if memory serves.

A 64-bit build was not available on Mac OS X until CS5.
