Not posting a reply

How do I post a message to a thread without Replying to a person or the OP? I see messages that do not have have a 'reply to' at the top of the message.

You don't. Those are the only options.

Those are messages that reply to the immediatly preceding message. It does not show who you are replying to, if it is the message immediately above on you screen.

what nwricket said.

The only way to not reply to another posting is to start your own thread.

[edit]I replied to nwricket's post directly above this one.

When I am replying in a thread and I want to use the word "you" when discussing or providing an example, but I am not replying directly to any person in the thread, I reply using the "Reply OP" button, but on the first instance of the word "you" I include
(a general "you") right after it, to make sure my remarks are not taken in the wrong way by either the OP or the posters immediately preceding me.
