[Plumbing] Apartment Water Heater/Pipes BangingWe live in an older 1960's built apartment building, and for the last 2 weeks I hear some banging noises(about 2-3 seconds each) coming from the laundry room where the water heater is at. I don't know if it is the pipes or water heater, but it sounds like its right where the water heater is at. The water heater was replaced 7years ago with a Rheem model, and I was wondering if this banging might be the sign it needs to be replaced. It makes the noise 2-5 times a day so its not too bothersome, but I would like to know if anybody might have any answers. And I did call and leave a message for our landlord to have someone look at it. Thanks. |

If it happens while it's firing it could be "percolating" which basically is when a thick layer of hard sediment forms in the tank bottom it can overheat causing the formation of steam bubbles, when the bubble collapses you hear a "bang". |
