My work is basically at a standstill, though using Google DNS servers has given me back some degree of functionality. Waited on hold 24 minutes just to have a Biz Class CSR tell me "Yea, we're having major problems today." DUH!?!

I am seeing the same thing. Running some traceroutes I have to wonder. Might it be a problem with Comcast's congested peering to most Tier 1 ISPs?
