6.6 earthquake shakes B.C. coast

A magnitude 6.6 earthquake located near Port Hardy set some blinds swaying across the coast on Wednesday evening.

so my question is, what happens to an oil pipeline during an earthquake?

Usually nothing unless it's already compromised in some mechanical/physical way....

I would ASSUME *Yes, an ugly word* that the oil companies keep the maintenance up because - pardon the pun - it's their lifeline.

the pipelines are designed to withstand a X earthquake... it's amazing what technology can do now.

Even though pipelines look like a solid piece of metal they do have the ability to flex and sway, just like a bridge or a high rise building.

Pipelines? Trying to instigate something? Check out California's. How many related instances of earthquake relate ruptures have you ever heard about?

Hopefully the natural springs at the Haida Gwaii Islands will star running again, they stopped after the last quake.

I'm in Victoria and didn't feel this one. Looks like it was 40km off the west coast of the Island. There really isn't a lot of stuff on the west side of vancouver island (especially the northern half of the island). It basically hit 40km away from areas with very small populations.

Probably shook Port Alice and Port Hardy a little bit.

Seems like the media is sensationalizing another middle of nowhere BC earthquake.

I didn't feel a thing. At the time of the quake I was watching hockey.....not so much
as a ripple in my beer glass.

Everytime it happens people , especially the media, talk about the "big one". Wonder why my Insurance Company gives me insurance, especially in a Earthquake zone. Except for a $25,000 deductible, they will pay a huge chunk, that's if I'm alive to collect.

you should get insurance for the deductible.
