No need to defend Charter One...I see what you're getting at; however, authorizations hit the account 24hr/day. Furthermore, the last transaction against the account was on a Thursday and we're talking about Saturday morning; if the authorization didn't hit the account on Friday (it *DID* and it was still pending as of Saturday -- that *SAME* transaction, as of that Monday, then *HAD* processed on Friday -- see the problem now?) then you would be correct.
The bank owned up to this eventually, but wouldn't do anything about it unless I visited a branch with my documentation; the fact that the round-trip flight to the nearest branch would have cost me more than the limit on the erroneous debt meant I said screw it. Their collectors, and even ChexSystems, agreed with me, as well, after reviewing the account history, meaning the bank's own records. |
