[VA] Non-functional Upload / Connection time outs

My internet has slowed to a crawl this afternoon... I can't figure out what the problem is. I've tried rebooting my modem and router. I even tried changing the MAC address on my router to force the modem to issue it a new IP. This didn't change a thing.

From what I can tell my signal levels look fine. I tried running a speedtest but it won't even complete the upload test. Due to having basically no upstream bandwidth pretty much all sites are slugish or time-out. Though doing a ping or traceroute shows no dropped packets.

I attempted to upload a screenshot of my modem signal levels. But damn thing failed every time and it's just a 80kb file! The file would only upload about 4-16kb before timing out and failing.

Even submitting this post it timed out 10 times just trying to post some simple text.

I had to break this into 2 separate posts... It wouldn't post the thread unless I broke it up. LOL

Here is a copy/paste of my modem signal levels... only way I could post it:

Well I finally got through Cox's Support.

They re-provisioned my modem which seems to have fixed the issue.
At least I'm able to successfully perform a speed test now and upload those files.

I might as well post them...

Anyone else having a similar problem, you'll probably want to call to have them do the re-provisioning.

Pretty sure all reprovisioning does is reset some information on the back end of cox, which in turns checks it on the modem. So what ever is causing the problem might be a configuration issue. Do you have gateway? Maybe a SB6580? Saw a thread of someone getting a bunch of MDD being caused by the gateways forced and lock UI changes. Could you post your logs from around the time of the event? Don't forget to edit anything private, IE mac address.

Nope I have a SB6141, firmware version listed below.

Model Name: SB6141
Vendor Name: Motorola
Firmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.12-SCM00-NOSH

I checked the logs on the modem and I didn't see anything suspect... just 3 reboots. 1 reboot was my own and the other 2 were done by Cox via SNMP. Though the logs on the modem are almost useless, I think Cox hides a lot of the log entries.

Weird. Doesn't make sense how reprovisioning a modem could fix that type of problem. I am not doubting your advice, just wondering why. Firmware? Or maybe reprovisioning just forced it to reboot longer? Engineer want to take a crack?
