[WIN7] IE11 proper shutdown gives wrong error messageHello,
In view of the current MS Security Advisory #2963983, I just switched IE11's security setting from Medium-High to High, and un-registered VGX.DLL. I also configured EMET 5.0 TP to protect IE11's "iexplore.exe".
Whenever I close this IE app, a screen popup shows to the effect IE has closed "unexpectedly" and Windows is looking for a solution blah blah blah...! This is obviously wrong, and very annoying.
Any suggestions? Thanks for your help. |

You did three mitigations. Undo one and see what happens. You could re-register VGX.DLL and see if the problem clears.
I think the culprit is going to be one of the mitigations within EMET 5. |

Hi Frodo, Whenever I open EMET GUI, I saw the following popup message in the Task Bar:
"EMET detects ASR Mitigation in iexplore.exe. Component: Adobe Flash Player version 13.0 r0 (i.e. the latest update)"
The problem remains whether I remove ASR protection from Adobe Flash or remove Adobe Flash itself from the list/table of applications in EMET GUI. I rebooted the PC after either activity.
What to do next? |

Answer & solution found. EMET User Guide says that by default, EMET blocks flash and java. Via Google-fu, the only solution is by editing Windows Registry:
1. Run regedit.exe 2. HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\EMET\_settings-\ 3. Edit > Find "flash*.ocx" 4. Delete "flash*.ocx" from DWORD VALUE of "ASR_Modules"
No more IE crash message! |
