Fibe Tv: Switching to 1080i or 1080p shrinks the picture

Hello. I was hoping someone could help me with an issue I am having with my Fibe Tv receiver. After the 2.4 update, if I switch to 1080i or 1080p, the picture shrinks into the middle of the T.V. You can see the whole picture but it is just miniaturized. I am using an HDMI cable through an AV reciever and never had this issue before the 2.4 update...obviously 1080p wasn't available. Is there something that I am doing wrong.

Thanks

1080P is only used with some on demand content. (It will say "SuperHD")
For everything else, it's 720p, hence the shrinkage.

All Bell content is 720P, so you're best overall to leave the box in this mode.

Also, 1080i isn't better than 720p, especially considering all transcodes from Bell are 720p.
You are best to match the source as best as possible, in Bells case, 720p.

How small is the picture. If your tv can't do 24fps and the receiver is outputting 24fps, the image will shrink. Dishnetwork forums were full of complaints about that back 08 with older Panasonic and Sony panels.

The problem is outlined above. The box outputs @60Hz

I have a newer Samsung 55" 3D LED SmartTv @ 120Hz. I don't think it should have any issues at displaying the picture at 24fps. I usually leave it on 720p but I tried switching it to both 1080p and 1080i and it shrinks the picture on both settings. Think of it as displaying a 32" picture within a 55" television. The rest of the picture is surrounded by black. Also, I thought that by changing the setting to 1080p, it would display the video in 1080i unless the content is actually 1080p. If i choose to rent a movie that is in "Super HD", do I have to manually change the setting to 1080p?

Thanks

Sounds like you are tuning SD channels, not HD. The High Definition channels are 1001 and higher.

Is your TVs zoom level not set correctly? As AL62 said are you possibly on an SD channel?

I have my receiver set to 1080p on a 47" and it's not having any picture issues.

On Rogers, there is a lot of wide format programming transmitted on SD channels. On a 4:3 TV this would mean cropped top and bottom but full width. Then if you put it on 16:9 TV you then end up with it appearing cropped on all 4 sides!

I tried again last night and made sure it was on an HD channel but the result is the same. I'm not sure if I am describing what happens properly but basically when you switch it to 1080i or 1080p, the picture miniaturizes to about the size of a 32" television screen with black surrounding the rest of the picture. All elements of the program are within the picture so it has nothing to do with any zoom levels on either the television or the STB. Could it be my HDMI cable?

That is totally the behaviour of an HD program transmitted on an SD channel viewed on an HD TV!

perhaps your audio receiver is modifying the picture format? Mine is capable of that....

For troubleshooting purposes can you run an hdmi cable directly from the bell box to the tv and bypass your receiver for now? let us know....
