Re: Original TWC MAXX thread - now MAXX General Discussion

Zipcode 10016 in Manhattan.

Got the letter and picked up the Arris DG1670A. Came already in bridge mode, which was extremely convenient. Still at 100down/5up, but the modem status page shows 16 downstream channels, so I guess now I just wait for TWC to flip the switch.

A little confused here...have now received several messages from TW -- email, snail mail, and voice mail (!). "Time Warner Cable is now delivering internet speed up to 6 times faster in your area for no additional cost..."

These seem to be the "modem swap" messages, but I already did the swap before Maxx hit my area. I have a DG1670A in use now. But it shows no sign of 16x4 bonding (still 8x1), and of course my speed is the same as the old tiers. My modem stats - power, snr - are all quite good.

Are they simply jumping the gun with these messages? And that the upgrade switch just isn't flipped yet, despite their wording?

Yeah, from reading through the thread it can take 1-2 weeks after the mail comes.

My modem actually is bonding to 16 downstream channels, but I'm still at 100/5. Shrug.

Maxx is live in zip 90020. Hub is Wilcox. Using SB6141 on the Extreme tier. I'm thinking of downgrading to Turbo.

if you live alone even with a lot of wifi gadgets, it's still the smart move. there is no killer app that requires more bandwidth than 100/10 yet, and you don't need a better than sb6141 modem.

Thanks. Last question - wouldn't 20x8=160? Couldn't they at least deliver that? I guess there's a breakdown I'm missing.

Why would TWC create a 160mbps profile for a speed tier that they're not selling? People would then complain that they're paying the same amount as someone getting the full 200/300mbps.

I think they would have made a lot of people happier if the Extreme tier was 150/20 and was compatible with 8 channel modems, but it's too late now.

Best bet is to save even more money and drop to the Turbo tier. You'll be paying less and getting more upload than you were before!

Same here. I got the longer email that told me to order my new modem. Did that and it's up and running. Got a second, shorter reminder email saying something like, "Connect your new modem to begin enjoying faster speeds." But it's the same old service.

I'm thinking they are jumping the gun with these messages.

I'm in 90006 and just noticed the upgrade too. There was a RCS partial service at 12:48am in the logs. I was told by a tech that I was on the Bowcroft Hub, so perhaps my data is from Wilcox and TV from Bowcroft? Or perhaps Bowcroft was upgraded earlier. I may downgrade too. My Galaxy S3 can only max out at 47 down on 5Ghz wifi and tablet only supports 2.4Ghz, so the max out on that is only 20 something down. I hardly even use my desktop or laptop anymore.

What kind of router do you have? Make sure QoS is NOT clamping down on the upstream bandwidth. That seems to be a common issue with users getting full MAXX speeds.

Nice surprise this morning. Looks like connection went out around 12:45 for a minutes. Woke up to 53/5.3. Using a Cisco DPC3008 in downtown LA.

Wasn't expecting an upgrade until "Late November".

I agree. For most SB6141 owners, Turbo is the sweet spot on the value scale.

I have a Netgear Nighthawk. Also thanks for the info it was the QoS that was clamping down my upload now I am getting my full speeds.

8 channels down and 4 up. They probably have 16 down but his modem is an 8x4 so he only sees 8 down.

Sweet, looks like mine bumped up to 4 US channels 2 nights ago while I was on vacation. Should be any time now, can't wait. In the meantime COD should play a hell of a lot better with them extra channels.

Don't see why not, when I've got 3 Xbox's all connected & running at the same time - surely the added US channels should help in some ways or another.
