Re: Original TWC MAXX thread - now MAXX General DiscussionWhen did your upgrade go live? I live in this area as well and haven't received the speed boost. Did you get a letter/email before the speed boost? I have my channels bonded, but still haven't received any letter or email like other people have claimed they have. Please let me know! Thanks |

Today Wednesday at 2AM in the morning, modem auto reboot itself. I did not receive any letters, no emails.
BTW: I had to buy a new modem ( SB6183 ) because my old ( SB6141 / Black model ) couldn't achieve Extreme Speeds, no idea why. |

Can someone please help me understand what I should do.? Since MAXX my top speed hits 235 mbps at most. I can never pull 300 mbps. I've checked all lines. There are no splitters, Its a direct line to the modem. Direct to the laptop for test. no wireless as well. Here is my 6183 read. Really appreciate to know what I can do to fix this. I have a TWC appointment for tomorrow. but I doubt they will do anything as I had gone through this almost a year back with the 100 mbps when I couldn't hit 100 and the person said that the line is the best he can do. When you use Puffin, the site (or at least the flash content on the site) is rendered on a server "in the cloud". Not on the iPad. So you're testing Puffin's connection to the internet, not your iPad's connection to the internet. BTW, if you weren't aware, there may be some significant security concerns with using browsers that do this: » www.bidnessetc.com/busin ··· -secure/» en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Op ··· security» www.pcworld.com/article/ ··· one.html |

Go to the configuration tab, click 'reset factory defaults", then click "reboot".
Im assuming you're in LA, you have the old upstream channels assigned.
This procedure will get you the latest config file. |

I am using the intel ac 7260 on my Dell Xps 8700 and I get advertised speed 216/21. I am 70 feet away from my router and there are 2 walls behind my Dell. I turn the Intel wireless ac to n mode because the ac performance is a lot slow I don't know why. I have the Asus ac 68u. Any recommend settings so my ac performance is faster than n. I turn ac off from my Asus ac68u. I tried flashing Merlin and better performance but ac hasn't improved. |

Just curious. I have no ethernet port. It is nearly impossible to get 300Mbps over 802.11n. Most routers/wireless cards max out around 300Mbps Transmit Rate (actual throughput will be quite a bit less than transmit rate). Some will allow you to get up around 450Mbps, but it's still tough to hit more than 250Mbps real-world throughput. So you're about near the max already. |

Your signal levels are nearly perfect, if not a little on the high side. That is unlikely to be causing speed problems though, as your error rates are all zero (try leaving your modem on for awhile and then check the error rates again).
The technician probably won't be able to do anything immediately. If he's good, he'll just report it up the chain and you'll have to wait for the network engineers to look into if there's a congestion issue (assuming your setup is good).
Do you have more than one computer you can test with? Do you have any Antivirius installed? |

I had a few corrections before I rebooted the modem. I didn't make a note of it. Will check back in about a day or two. As for my config, I have an AC wireless card on my laptop and got a new netgear AC modem nighthawk. My wireless speed shows 770 mbps. The router is fairly closeby to the laptop. The laptop is windows 8.1 1tb ssd. clean setup. Even with the hard wire the speed test does not change. I did get 316 in one of my speed tests. I ran the speed test about 50 times to get that speed. » www.speedtest.net/result ··· 4988.png |

said by OpTiC :Charters speed test is worse I get worse speed than TWC speed test or speedtest.net Which site(s) as there are dozens of them??? The speedtest.net - San Luis Obispo, Ca is a Charter hosted site. Have you tried it??? I didn't say all Comcast/Charter hosted sites were good. There is a Comcast site in Utah that can't do over 30/3 on a good day to save its life.but I have found over the years they are typically/consistently as good or better than sites hosted by others. I guess what I am saying is choose the test servers yourself not just the site that Speednet.net automatically selects for you which based on ping (which will usually be the same site again and again and again...). In a city like LA Speednet will be selecting that same lower ping site for 100's of users at the same time. It really sounds like Asadani is running his tests from the same test site/server repeatedly and expecting a different results. Viper |

TWC MAXX is now active! I'm in the 90027 zip code. I was on extreme 30/5, but am now getting speeds of 107/11. I'm using a Motorola 6141 so I'm restricted by hardware, but I should get speeds of 200/20 according to the rep if I upgrade my modem to a 6183 or equivalent. Not a bad deal for $35-$40/month!! |

You are paying about $40/month for Ultimate 200 plan in LA??!
The 12 month promo prices listed on TWC web site for Ultimate 200 is $55 (for west LA area)l.
So how is it possible you are paying only $40/month for Ultimate 200?
I'm also on the Ultimate 200 plan which was upgraded from the old 30/5 plan. My non-promo price is almost $89/month (including tax).
I will probably downgrade my plan since I'm using SB6141 modem. |

Yep! I was on their 30/5 plan which is around $30-40/month (i'd have to check my statements). Here's the deal: If you put your zip code in on the TW website or call them, they give you a different plan/speed options that what they offer nationally. It's stupid. So if you go onto the TW website without entering your zip code, odds are you will get a better deal. When they offered me prices over the phone, I quoted their own website and the price magically dropped in a space of 5 seconds.
So right now, I see they offer the ultimate 100 plan on their website without putting in my zip code for $45/month. I initially downgraded from their 100 plan from $65/month to their 30 plan which was around $40/month. But then they increased the speed today since Maxx is now in my area. Play them at their own game, and you can reduce your bill. |

Wait? What? I'm in 90027 also. I got the TWC letter yesterday...so I figured a couple weeks til the upgrade. But you're getting max speeds now? Last night I checked and the speed test started over 180mps down, but slowly dropped to the same old Ultimate speeds of 110mps or so. Same with the upload...starts at over 15mbps or so but drops to just slightly a little over old upload speeds of 5mbps. I have a new 6183 modem too I just got in the mail from Amazon...and rebooted multiple times...no max for me. Geez. |

If you're getting 180 down even as a test, I think you have Maxx in your area. Ring up TWC tech support and explain that you should be getting X speeds (200/300 etc). They will re-sync your modem remotely, and hey presto you get the faster speeds. I had them do it this morning, and it works great - I'm back up to over 100 down and 10 up. I will probably get the 6183 modem in a few months when the price drops - I can receive 200/20 on my current plan if I buy that modem. I'll probably wait until the price drops though, as I only bought the 6141 modem a few months ago. |

said by asadani:As for my config, I have an AC wireless card on my laptop and got a new netgear AC modem nighthawk. My wireless speed shows 770 mbps. The router is fairly closeby to the laptop. That is something you should not take literary. The connection speed listed is probably the best possible in theory, but not necessarily the best possible in practical situations. Just to give you an example, I have MAXX 300/20, and the Linux laptop I am typing this from is an old little beast I use in the livingroom for just browsing etc, and it SAYS it is connected at 36 Mbps (54 Mbps in theory max), but when I actually TEST, (sitting 5 feet from the router with no obstacles) I test around 16 Mbps down, 16 Mbps up, which is 20 Mbps lower (or about 55% lower) then what the connection speed says it is. So even though your connection speed says 770, it is very likely that the actual speed you reach is a LOT LOT slower. In reality, even on an AC connection, you may get about 200 Mbps. My wife's laptop is AC compatible, and gets around 200 Mbps on wireless in the same room. Wireless on 300 Mbps, is probably not going to happen. |
