Confirmed it's been "downgraded". At least our current connection hasn't been downgraded, but we are moving offices this year, and with that move Shaw will undoubtedly make us move to the new plan which is unacceptable. We are a charity and can't afford the extra $140/month to get back the connection we had.
Needing to screenshare into our office (over VPN) is a requirement of the job and it has been very unstable over the last few weeks any now this downgrade has me extremely worried.
As for Telus, they only offer 25/5 for $85/month. So not looking good. |

Went to upgrade our EDM and CGY offices from the 50x5 to the 100x10 to find out it only has 5mb upload now, and the 50Mb only has 3 up like residential now.
What-a-joke. Thought they were bumping upload speeds according to news 3 years ago? |

Welcome to monopoly. no competition=higher prices and downgrades in service. they are sick of all those people who don't watch TV (like me who doesn't watch it period, I hate TV in all forms). |

I noticed this too a few weeks ago. Ran a speedtest (speedtest.shaw.ca) at the time and was still getting 4.7Mbps upload. Yesterday, ran another speedtest and was down to 3.2Mbps. Called Shaw and asked why they're going backwards (slower) instead of forwards (faster) in 2014 and they said the slower upload is only applicable for new accounts and that I'm grandfathered in to the older speed. They said they're doing it to better align with other companies (take that however you want) and the 50 and 100Mbps services having the same 5Mbps upload didn't make sense so they lowered the 50Mbps.
They checked and my modem was still provisioned for 50/5, so they offered to reprovision it as sometimes it helps. They did that and now my speedtest is 45/5.17 so I'm good here.
And the Biz 100 has never had 10Mbps upload, at least never in Calgary, so the 5Mbps is nothing new there. Too bad they don't lower that price - $2.5x is crazy. |

Biz 100 has always had 10Mb at our locations in CGY and EDM, just only needed the 50Mb plan at the time. Go to upgrade and now they screwed up the plans. |

I'm on biz 100, I've never had 10 up, in Calgary |

Here's the email from my Shaw rep for the business:
So, the Calgary location for (company name) is on net with fiber to the building with Shaw (actually envision which we bought late last year). The Edmonton location is about 250-300 from our fibre, we would need to see what that would be to build to. With all that said we would be looking at somewhere in the $350-400 a month (on contract) for fibre 10Mbps (symmetrical) connection for each site, a little more costly then our 100Mb service but potentially feasible.
These prices are honestly an at a glance look and might be plus or minus 15% as I dont have a full view into the fibre costs. If you want more details we can have our team follow up with you and get the numbers figured out.

He also informed me he can get my the 100x10 package at both offices, especially our CGY one. We may have to pay more, but they can grant us the grandfathered plan. |

Re: Shaw Biz 50 upload moved from 5mbps down to 3mbpsSo 100/10 with a fiber connection?
But it doesn't surprise me that your Calgary building already has Shaw fiber to it... There are a few businesses in that area |

Nope, there is some what he can still get us into the 100x10 over coax. Being a sales person he is pressuring me to do fiber, however if we were to go down the fiber route at our branch offices (EDM and CGY) we would have to go atleast 20Mb, if not 25Mb. |

hummm *wonders who I have to talk to* haha
I am looking at leaving Shaw internet because of this (100/5 rather than 100/10) |

Believe me, I am still unsure how he's able to make it happen. I would imagine it won't be cheap, might even be a better deal to go fiber. Biz aside, I am screwed personally with my biz connection. Luckily they are grandfathering current connections so I still got my 5Mb upload for now. |

I called in to see if I could get business 250/15 at our location. They said no. I explained how I have it at my house. With in a 20 minute walk.
The rep. came back and was very informative. He said Shaw has run out of budget and everything for phase 2 is on hold indefinitely in this area.
My residential 250 during peak times is around acceptable BB100 speeds. I call in and get a $30 discount every month with out any issue. (Countless notes, tech visits, senior techs, now they don't bother)
This would explain it! |
