[DSL] voice calls disconnect DSLIn reply to 'Fushion 0.40 mb/s upload speed' by sophiac76 on 2013-May-17 2:20 am, dslx_steve said :
"Yes, as we determined in your last ticket (»Fusion Problem- Internet disconnects with every phone call), your speeds currently need to be capped because there is a short in your inside wiring which is causing your line to disconnect if we run it too fast. In order to increase your speeds and still remain stable, you would need to repair the inside wiring for your location.
Until then, I can remove the caps, returning the line to its default state, but then I fully expect your line to disconnect whenever you receive a regular phone call (as opposed to a Skype call, which shouldn't disrupt the line)."
That seems like the exact problem I was having with disconnects with every landline call. My solution was to discontinue voice service. I read on this forum that that was not possible, but I did it, My DSL bill still shows my old landline number, but I don't have any charges for voice service. I could e-mail you that phone number.
Could you check if a short in the inside wiring is my problem and if I am also capped because of it? I don't come anywhere near rated speeds for DSL Extreme. I get service from AT&T in Knoxville, TN.

Welcome to the site, mjmallory. Is your ISP DSLX or AT&T? If it's DSLX then you are in right place. If it's AT&T, then we have a forum for them as well that you can post about your issue. » AT&T DSL |

The ISP is AT&T, but the service is identified as DSL Extreme. Is that possible? |

No, unless I'm missing something here. We don't yet offer 'dryloop' service in AT&T territory, so you shouldn't be able to discontinue your voice service and still have DSL service with us.
I received your email, but wasn't able to locate you by phone number nor name nor email, and the IP your email came from is showing up as a bellsouth IP, so I'm fairly certain you're with AT&T, not us, sorry.
I would double-check what you're looking at which is identifying itself as "DSL Extreme"; you probably just misread something there (most likely "FastAccess DSL Xtreme"). |

So you are saying that you pay AT&T for your internet services? AT&T use to be known as BellSouth and DSLX is not in that area. BellSouth use to have a DSL plan called DSLXtreme which is different than DSL Extreme. DSL Extreme (DSLX) is an ISP and DSLXtreme wasf a speed plan that BellSouth had. |

You are right, sir. It's "FastAccess DSL Xtreme 6.0" Sorry (and I am sorry, you guys seem a lot more responsive than AT&T. I wish I was with you) |

mj, try posting about your issue/problem in our At&T DSL forum. I linked you to the forum in one of my previously posts to you in this thread. |

Likewise, mjmallory. Do wish you the best of luck in getting your connection working as it should be, though!
One friendly word of advice: you may want to step out to your phone box on the side of your building (the MPOE) and check to see if you have a test jack there. If you do, I'd see if it's possible to connect your modem and router, or maybe modem and a laptop, directly to it and see what sort of speeds you're getting then. If you get substantially better speeds directly at the test jack, that would be additional evidence suggesting problem with the inside wiring. If your speed seems to be about the same, it may be something else (such as a problem with the phone lines outside, most likely). |
