[Networking] Verizon router stops workingI have my Verizon router setup in dual bridge mode with my Netgear Nighthawk and everything was working fine for about a month. Now all of the sudden, the Internet connection has been breaking about once a day.
When I check the routers the Netgear seems to be fine but I cannot ping the Verizon even when I'm directly connected to it. I end up having to reset the Verizon router and re-enable the Ethernet connection at which point everything works until it happens again.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be the problem? Could the Actiontec be defective? |

Any way to run things with just one of the routers for a day or two to help narrow down the possibilities? |

Dump the Actiontec. It will eliminate some headaches. |

Yes I can't get rid of the Actiontec due to the set top boxes.
I will try to run with just the Actiontec for a week if I have to buy it would require a factory reset.
What did Verizon do for you? New router? I find when I call and tell them my setup they just stop helping. |

I log I got your call I would tell you to remove the other routers and see what happens. If I got your call after you removed them I would send you a new router. |

Curiosity begs the question of what IP configs do you have on each:
Router: Netgear IP: Subnet:
Router: Actiontec IP: Subnet:
Just copy the blocks above and fill them in... here is an example:
Below is an example of what I am looking for. This is based on my network config.
Router: Actiontec Internal IP: 192.168.1.1 Internal Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Router: Netgear Internal IP: 192.168.117.1 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 |

im having a similar issue. was running dual bridge mode as setup here: » Re: MI424WR-GEN2 Rev E Configuration Threadusing an airport extreme base station. was working great for a few months, then suddenly all my STBs lost data connection. i had to do a hard reset on the actiontec and call vzw to resend an IP to the router. set up dual bridge mode again, got data for maybe an hour then lost it. i'm going to try and get a cat5 to my ONT this eve. |

Don't forget folks, IP addresses in the range of 192.168.1.101-150 are reserved for the stb's and anything encroaching will cause problems |

Here are the configurations:
Router: Actiontec Internal IP: 192.168.1.1 Internal Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Router: Netgear Internal IP: 192.168.2.1 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 |

I did not know this. I just changed the ending IP address of the network to 100. |

How old is the Netgear?
Does the network behave when you route directly through the Actiontec bypassing the Netgear?
Can you better describe what your connection actually does when it "breaks once a day"? |
|
|
The Netgear is an AC1900 that I bought new a few months ago.
I haven't tried to go back to using just the Actiontec yet. I think I'll do that this weekend if it keeps happening but I did change my IP address range if it was actually interfering with the STBs as rollinraver suggested.
By breaks once a day, I mean I lose my Internet connection and when I go look at my routers, the Netgear seems fine but I am unable to connect to the Actiontec. LAN traffic still works, just not the Internet. |

That way the Actiontec only deals with the STBs. I used to have my setup this way many years ago when I used to have a Set Top Box. |

hmmmm..... sounds like a flaky net interface on the actiontec. How long have you had the router? |

Contact Verizon and tell them to send you a new modem. Other wise we'll be here a month pulling guesses out of thin air. |

Yes that's what I'm going to have to do because its still happening. Thank you everyone for your help. |
