What model modem do you have and is it bridged?
Is your router giving your PC a private IP address?
Is you routers WAN port getting a valid IP address? |

I had a problem after updating to the latest version of tomatousb about 6 months ago. I found a few links on the internet and adding "--retries=2 --timeout=5 --tryagain=310" to my DHCP options under the DHCP/DNS section under advanced network got me up and working ever since. Something about the dhcp server blocking the requests because some dhcp clients retry to fast. |

I had a similar issue with my ASUS router. After a recent (stock) firmware update, the WAN DHCP behavior was set to 'aggressive'. Too aggressive apparently because I started having connectivity issues. I set it to 'normal' and all is well. |

Yeah I found some links that explain the DHCP policy has been set that if you send 5 requests in a 3 minute time frame you are banned for either 3 minutes or 5 minutes.
I've been using DD-WRT for the router firmware, but the internet just died so I reset the modem and it reconnected to the CMTS but I could get either my computer or the router to pull an IP.
Until I called the tech support line and they reset it from their end I couldn't get an IP address assigned. |
