Canadian Chat → [Rant] Shaw finally giving something away for free

Sitting outside last night and this guy comes over and offers me Premium digital,higher speed internet and a Shaw phone for free for 6 months and then I get to keep the higher internet speed if and when I revert back to my present plan.

So basically I'll get the movie channels and HBO and maybe a few more,but I don't need the phone,cause I use Vonage which are great.

Should be interesting to see how easy it will be to revert back after the 6 months.:)

Funny you should mention that. I just got their X-Large package which includes
50meg Broadband for what I'm paying now. 6 months from now I may pull the plug
on cable TV and stream everything. Or keep Basic cable for local stuff and stream the rest.

Got my free LG 42 inch TV for a promo. Keeping the services I had before and ditching the TV part of the promo bundle. Not a great LCD panel but hey as a second or third unit, its just fine.

Well the tech just left and internet seems a little faster.......so I'm happy.

Decent test tonight

The same I was paying for 25meg Extreme. There is a battle going on between Shaw
& Telus in this gated community for our business. Shaw gave me what they call their
Extra-Large package which includes 48 HD channels, 50meg Broadband and a Shaw
phone. I basically had the same thing minus the 50meg Net.

Even when I was on 25meg Extreme I was getting 26-27meg. I "think" it's because this
complex is on it's own node. Whatever....I'm happy as hell. If the server at the other
end can serve it up at these speeds downloading a movie is breathtaking!

I just noticed that the speeds are mbps vs mbs...........so realistically mine are almost higher,right?

Do I have the conversion right...........7.5 to 1?

Both Shaw and Speedtest.net use the same rate.

Yes but I meant the different results from yours and mine...........if I convert the mbps to mbs,then I'm getting similar results to the tests you guys have.

I think...........I'm getting a headache.

My dl speeds seem to be better also.

My Shaw bill keeps going up and up and up

I did notice a speed bump about two months ago. I think the adjusted their speeds for overhead so all the connections got a minor speed bump (you had to reset your modem to sync at the new rates).

My 50mbps Shaw connection is rock solid too.

It's not only Shaw who are raising their rates all the time!

Yes, the Entry level Shaw Internet account went from 5meg to 7 meg and I believe it
is now 10meg. The old old 1.5meg Light was scrapped at least 18 months ago.

For me the big improvement came about 8-9 months ago when Shaw did the
DNU=Digital Network Upgrade in my area. Not only did I see about 6 more channels
but my Net speeds went WAY up. There was also a major piece of equipment
changed. Almost the whole of the South Surrey/White Rock area suffered through
almost a week of crap TV signals and bad Net speeds when a went bad. The tech
told me the it was being flown in from the USA somewhere and it would take 2-3 to
get here and be installed. Not too long after that they did the DNU and I have been
in Net digital heaven ever since.
