Rant on Comcast / TWC Merger and Charter

So, I just found out that if the Comcast / TWC merger goes through, I live in an area that is to be spun off to Charter, which absolutely sucks. I currently get 105 down and 20 up from Comcast for $82.95 per month and in speed tests I actually always (I do mean always - any time, day or night, speeds are always consistent) get 121 down and 23 up. Charter doesn't even offer anything close to these speeds and certainly not for the price I pay.

I absolutely dread the thought of losing the great service I have now, only to be replaced with internet service and speeds that would have been considered good 5-10 years ago. No, thanks. I really, really, really hope the Comcast / TWC merger is not approved now. I was neutral on it before, but I adamantly oppose it now. You guys can keep your craptastic Charter service. I have no desire to go backwards to 2005 internet speeds.

And there are those of us that have charter that feel teh same way about Comcast. Comcast to charge $64 for 50 meg and that's if you buy your own modem. Charter has 60 meg for $55 and provide the modem for you. Also to get the same deal as Charter 60 meg internet and Silver plan it will cost me $70 more per month for the exact same shit from Comcast.

Currently with Charter, but I'd almost prefer to go with Comcast, if I had a choice, as they at least offer tiers that more fit how I use the internet, as opposed to Charter's 2 lousy choices!

Unlike most people here, I do not need anything even close to 100M down and certainly don't need a $50 a month internet bill!

No, DSL is NOT an option or even a comparison either!

I do agree with Zed about them being to big though as I also do with other crappy huge conglomerates like Verizon and AT&T, but what the heck, can't fight the money their pouring in to pay their way for stuff.

As far as that goes, I have always bought my own modem and still prefer to have my own!

I don't know about where you are but, for me, if you ask for 100Mb, you can get it for about the same price you're paying.

That's fine but considering how much you bash Charter's pricing it I'm not sure why you don't show the same outrage over Comcast charging $73 for 50 meg for people using Comcast's modem vs Charter charging $55 for 60 meg with a modem included.

by the end of the year the 50 meg plan with Comcast will be 105 down and 10 up.

I's take 60 meg for $55 over 105 for $74 any day of the week.

And there have been rumblings with some Charter Ultra users (100M) seeing 200M and rumors that 60M might go to 100M with testing in the STL market.

Anything could happen, but Charter is still cheaper for the same services.

Thing is.. STL is the "HQ" per se of Charter.. and they've always gotten the speeds the quickest,..and it's very possible if they ever went 200 on Ultra.. it could be limited to STL only.. They take care of STL.

I could care less what Comcast charges for some service/tier I would never have no plan on using, is why I don't show the same outrage! Plus the fact I'm NOT a Comcast customer right now!

For how I use the internet now a days, which isn't much as I have a life outside, $55 a month is totally stupid, but I have no choice with Charter. At least with Comcast, I could get a cheaper tier even if I DID take one of their modems and had to pay for it!

Just looked over Comcast's pricing and it does seem to be that they are getting quite ridiculous on pricing even with the slower tiers!

Of course, I don't see Charter keeping the free modem thing going much longer and with a free speed upgrade coming, it's inevitable the price goes up, which would happen regardless of either of the above.

you've been saying that since they stopped charging for them in June 2012. One day your prediction might actually come true if you keep predicting it long enough
