I keep telling them a house phone is for cavemen and tv service sucks because of all the commercials. They dont get that I download all my tv for free and never have to watch an AD EVER! And I get whatever I want when I want it! /rant. |

Re: [CATV] Charter cant fathom that I dont want TV service!Trust me...the sales dept at Charter doesn't care what you tell them...unless it is about accepting their offer of more services. You should have politely told them to take you off their calling list as well. Which they usually will do without protest. |

I'll admit, prior to my blissful period with them, every phone call ended up with me reaming the supervisor with expletive laden discussion. They'd shut up like cowards, give me a half month's credit and send a tech out. You're going to laugh at what got corporate involved back in 2009. A simple letter to the FCC at the time and a BBB complaint. A few days later a nice guy from corporate calls me and tells me he wants to make everything right. Admittedly I filed a complaint with both knowing I wouldn't get much out of it, but I did. I did the same for a neighbor a while back, and they (corporate) were eager to help. The BBB in general is useless, but in my experiences, the companies have always been willing to bend over backwards by helping, giving credit, future deals, etc. I presume it's how you word your letter/complaint. |

So, block their number...
AT&T does that constantly asking if we want uverse, even if you tell them to stop. |

Same here, Charter calls like clockwork each month. Trying to sell the TV packages, perhaps the phone too. I've gotten to recognizing them with the first sentence, and deny interest. Gotta ask about removal from the calling list.
The U*verse people call about every other month. It's become so familiar I deny them too after the first sentence. |

Now if everyone did that how sustainable would that be? How long do you think they would continue to make new content? Do YOU work for free? But you expect others to. Unbelievable. If you don't want to pay for your content then you choice is not to watch it. |

The easy way to avoid almost any telemarketing calls is to not have a home phone and avoid giving your cell number out like it is your home phone... |

I get 2 letters EVERY week from Charter and Dishnetwork/DTV to subscribe. What is the point of the promoting "Go paperless to save the environment!" when they do that crap. I wish someway to get off those lists. |

Not to mention that it still costs them a significant amount to do mass mailings of this junk mail.
The ludicrous fancy things I received included a Charter mailing that includes a faux plastic credit card for some stupid reason, which they insist on sending me every week or so. AT&T has sent me laminated cards for U Verse promos!!! |

HUGE difference between someone cutting the cord and then streaming via Netflix or Hulu or buying episodes form Amazon or Itunes and downloading torrents. |

The Charter letters are from Residential so I guess their marketing department cannot see that my address already has CBN service. For Dish, who knows as I've been a Dish customer with the top package for countless years. The billing departments sure know I have service though! At least I do not get the phone calls. |

I did the same and it works amazingly well. No marketing calls at all from Charter. |

My solution after a couple calls like that (about 3 months into my service, several years back) was to port my phone number over to Ooma VoIP and cancel the Charter phone plan I had. I made sure to make it clear the primary reason I was dropping the phone service was due to irritation with their sales tactics, and that my new VoIP provider was a lot cheaper anyway with the bonus of making it easy to block future calls from Charter |

I use » www.CallCentric.Com for my home phone over Charter Internet. |

SwitchFX, why are you assuming he is pirating? He could be using AppleTV or Netflix. |

While I definitely do NOT condone pirating of any kind ...I don't have any sympathy for these big ISP companies that provide the service. After all we know that at least ONE CEO Tom Rutledge of Charter (formerly at Cablevision) has a helicopter fly him between his office in NYC and his ritzy home in Stanford, CT....boo hoo! |

Can't let go of the past can you? You seem to confuse the past where he did that several years ago as COO of Cablevision with the present where his Charter office is in Stanford, CT. During the time he was with Cablevision, they did pretty well and the board decided helicopter time cheaper then the man sitting in traffic. Am I a bad guy because my current company gives me a vehicle, laptop, cell phone, training, significant higher education assistance, and more than $50k in personal tools? My previous job where I was paid much less gave me occasional helicopter flights into work too. Is there some chart that tells you what the acceptable expenses are for a particular job? |

I believe thats misinformation....Charter offices are in Stamford,CT and Rutledge lives in New Canaan,CT,just a short drive of maybe 7-8 miles/10 minutes. When he was at Cablevision he did take a copter from his home to Bethpage,NY,roughly 60 miles away and an hour and a half by car which is not uncommon in the CT/NY/NYC area. |

Thanks for the correction Icarus! Tom Rutledge may not be flying to his new office nowadays but rarely do creatures change their spots either. My guess is that he is still the same disconnected clown that flew to his old office everyday. Just the thought that someone in charge of a large consumer oriented company would do such a thing makes you wonder about everything else he does. Poor judgement to say the least. Heck if his home was too far away from his office while at Cablevision why didn't he keep a residence closer to work like any other normal person would? LOL It's not like he couldn't afford a place in NYC. |

You have been corrected on that many times, but you still judge him by one headline making thing he did at his last job... what about the other 30 years in the work force before that? BTW, have you read anymore of the background on the Cablevision aircraft beyond the Rutledge headlines? » www.wikinvest.com/stock/ ··· Aircraftsaid by link : The Company owns and operates three passenger helicopters and leases and operates two jets to facilitate business travel of senior executives. In connection with our executive security program, it is recommended that the named executive officers use Company aircraft for all travel whenever practical.
Generally, Messrs. Charles F. Dolan and James L. Dolan are permitted to use the helicopters and the jets for personal travel. In addition, certain other executive officers and other members of management are permitted to use the helicopters and the jets for personal travel upon the approval of the Chief Executive Officer. Messrs. Hank J. Ratner and Thomas M. Rutledge are permitted to use Company jets for up to 35 flight hours annually for personal travel. Personal use of the helicopters has primarily been for purposes of commutation.
To the extent any employee uses any of the aircraft for personal travel without reimbursement, they are imputed compensation for tax purposes. This personal use is valued at the Standard Industry Fare Level (SIFL) rates that are published biannually by the IRS. For compensation reporting purposes, we valued the incremental cost of the personal use of the aircraft based on the variable costs incurred by the Company net of reimbursements received by executives. The incremental cost of the use of the aircraft does not include any costs that would have been incurred by the Company whether or not the personal trip was taken, such as lease and insurance payments, pilot salaries and other overhead costs.
In connection with any personal travel on Company jets, Charles F. Dolan and James L. Dolan reimburse the Company for the actual expenses of each specific flight at the maximum amount the Company may legally charge under Part 91 of the Federal Aviation Regulations.
In connection with any personal travel on Company jets, Hank J. Ratner and Thomas M. Rutledge reimburse the Company for the actual expenses of each specific flight at a rate no greater than the maximum amount the Company may legally charge under Part 91 of the Federal Aviation Regulations. Mr. Rutledge is not required to reimburse the Company for use of the helicopter for commuting purposes.
