Diskace...thanks for the transparency, but for the slow-processors like me today...care to elaborate a bit?

I.e. Does this indicate for example Cable ONT is 300Mbps on a 1Gbps pipe and the peak is 135Mbps? Can't be this low...no way - I can maybe see the 24hr averages being pretty low- but not peak.
What am I missing?

This is actually exactly what it means. The peak usage on our cable network in Ontario is really low at this moment.

This number will gradually increase as more users connect, ebox only has offered Ontario cable for a bit over 4 months now. But with the new tiers, maybe people will flood in

Does this mean if 5 people on Cable 30/5 start a speed test (or max out their connections) at the same time, the link becomes saturated and can no longer serve other customers? I understand this may or may not take long to complete (and in fact could go unnoticed), but still - it only takes 5 individuals.

I've always wondered how peak bandwidth is determined and provisioned (ie is it pre- or post-paid?) If pre-paid is the circuit sized for the upcoming month and it doesn't change no matter what? Or if post-paid is the incumbent actually metering the connection and bills the IISP according to what they measure as the "peak"

The Ontario side has 200Mbps provisioned so if 6 customers with 30/5 connections download at full speed, it'll be saturated yes but it NEVER happens in real life.

As far as I know residential IISP can't pay last-mile providers by 95th percentile, they have to buy a fixed amount of capacity. That's why EB is keeping track of the traffic and growth and plans ahead the upgrades.

With upstreams provider, you can buy a 10GBps port with a 5Gbps commit on it. You can basically burst over 5Gbps up to 36h in a month without being charged more than your commit. It's flexible, you pay for what you have planned but you still need to monitor the traffic and plan ahead because most of the time, the extra per Mbps will cost a lot of money.

It's pre-paid and orders must be placed 30 days before they are to be actioned, which is why you see the July 1st order posted at the beginning of June. Only one change can be requested per month if I'm not mistaken.

TPIAs have to anticipate how much capacity they'll need based on the number of customer, projected growth, etc.

Pas pire, ils projettent 100 000 clients d'ici deux ans Dire qu'en 2012 il y a avait même pas 1Gbps si je me trompe pas.

Not anymore we can do it 14 days in advance. We prefer to do it 30 days and if we don't forecast properly we can order in rush so it,s not that bad.

Good to hear. Is it still just one change a month though?

Let say you need upgrade, can you request the upgrade June 13th and get it June 27th?
