MagicJack Caller ID works when plugged into computer Not when plugged in AC

We have had the magicjack only a week and the caller id worked plugged into the AC adapter for a day then quit working. But caller id works when plugged into computer. Its not the router because I plug it directly to the modem and it still doesn't work. It I use the resistor trick sometimes it won't even ring or I get an error on the display rather than incoming call it tells me incomplete data. Anyone else have this?

I've been having this problem for over a week now. Been getting the run around by magic jack support who claim they are working "double time" to get it fixed. After reading other message boards, I personally think they have no clue about how to fix the issue. Many many people are currently experiencing this problem. I've already put in my order for Vonage--my honest opinion, return your magic jack if you still can.

Having same problem with Magic Jack Plus using supplied USB-AC adapter. Caller id has not displayed since May 29th. Chatted with Magic Jack support individual who said the engineers were aware of and working on the problem.

Caller id displays on phone when Magic Jack is plugged into USB port on the PC. This implies that neither the router nor the phone are at fault.

Having same problem within same time frame.
Tried what m71024 stated:

Plugged MJPlus into USB port on PC, Caller ID is displayed onscreen in soft-phone, and also displayed correctly on my cordless handsets.

Connected MJPlus back into the AC adapter and the Router Ethernet port, Caller ID does not display on my cordless handsets. Stopped the Router / Modem Firewall thinking some needed port was being blocked, same result, no Caller ID displayed: It does display "INCOMING OUTSIDE CALL", but that does not record into my handset log for history. My opinion then is that; the problem is not caused from the router / modem Firewall.

Then is the problem within the MJPlus Ethernet interface circuits or is the ISP blocking the caller ID
since they also offer their own VOIP service bundle which I don't subscribe to, saving $20/month?

The MJPlus sends and receives calls correctly, but the caller ID stopped working for about a week now. Can ISP block just the caller ID portion leaving the call connections okay?

My caller ID is not working as well. It says Incomplete data. Live Chat says they are working to fix this issue.

Hoping MJ service can fix this issue. I now doubt it is ISP related, since outgoing caller ID works for outbound calls. And it's funny that if you go to Magicjack.com and look at your phone logs, the received caller ID's are there correctly. The MJPlus is not sending the ID to my hard phone only when plugged into the modem. For kicks, I'll plug my device into the computer USB and also have the ethernet wire routed to see what happens.

Oh, very thankful I am not alone in this. Caller ID stopped around the time you all said. I have tried DMZing it, port forwarding, among other things. I guess we will just wait a little longer. We have just dumped Xfinity/Comcast for this. The ID does come through when MJ+ is hooked to my computer. But, not when plugged into the router/modem via ethernet. MJ+ could be so awesome if they spend a little time and investment in the infrastructure. I'm sure they can still make millions.

This is the best thread I have seen so far on this issue. Thanks, everyone!

I have been having this problem since may 29, 2014 as well. It is super inconvenient to use my phone without knowing who is calling me on caller Id.

Magic Jack execs continue to get richer in the stock market while providing inadequate service, over 7 days without fixing a minor (yet very annoying) problem is simply ridiculous to say the very least !!

I had the same issue. I tried different ports on router (no success), re-booted router (no success), and then tried it by plugging directly into PC and the caller Id worked. I chatted with the 'magic jack' help and they acknowledged the issue/error and their technicians are working to get it resolved (no ETA provided). I told them I would check back in a week as having no caller id is not acceptable!

Our caller ID last worked on May 27, 2014. I was reluctant to call because it's such a dragged out affair. I tried to fix from my end. So happy to hear they are working on the problem. Has anyone been given a time frame for repair?

Thanks. Have a great weekend everyone!

Having same problem here, too. Last ID received was May 28. Have been looking online since then to see if anybody else having the issue, this is the first thread I've found so far. This pretty much confirms it's MJs issue. I wasn't going to contact Support b/c I figured I wouldn't get anywhere, but the more of us that bug them is probably better for us. I hope they fix it soon, but I've begun looking at alternatives b/c this is getting frustrating. It seems every couple months there's an issue.

I'm a MagicJack user since 2011. This is the really first time that an issue like that occurs. Maybe it's on purpose, to make us buy the new device or maybe it have something to do with the legal war between the inventor of the magicjack Dan Barislow and the new merge company that is now israeli (Magicjack Vocaltec ltd. »fr.scribd.com/doc/224231 ··· MAX-CORP) It's a minor bug with big consequences for the user. As an computer specialist for the past 30 years I can't understand why such a thing is so hard to settle. Something that was working well for years and suddenly even after a week no progress, nothing ... It's because they don't want. When you pay before getting a service it's what is happening, customers have no longer the power to get what they had paid for. Something to think about...! Good luck to all of us...

Same problem here. Last caller ID was on May 29th. In thinking that my old call screening unit died, I wasted $39 on a replacement unit that didn't work either. Then, I learned it was on their end! Considering the low cost, I'll hang in there for another month, but after that it's good by Magic Jack.

same thing with my magic jack the caller ID didn't appeared after I renew the subscription..still waiting for 2 weeks now and they still didn't fix it.

Same problem as ALL stated: been driving me C-R-A-Z-Y.

My caller ID shows "Line Error" when plugged into router, but works fine when plugged into computer.
Phone handsets show ALL relevant info when plugged into computer but don't even show that a call
was received, when plugged into router.

If MagicJack can't fix problem "right away" (NOT sure why), can't they at least post something on their website to let everyone know that A PROBLEM DOES EXIST...and IT"S ON THEIR END ?????

It would save a GREAT many people from endless hours of trying to fix it on their own end.

Re: MagicJack Caller ID not working

Like others, MJ Plus (2012) Caller ID quit working about 2 1/2 weeks ago, along with selective incoming calls dropping after 4-7 seconds. Luckily my neighbor has MJ Plus (2012 version) has MJ Plus that was manufactured with a Serial Number about 70,000 less than mine. I purchased in March of 2013. So, we eliminated my USB extension cord, AC Adapter, and narrowed it down to the actual MJ Plus component. When I used his router, his MJ, my adapter, my extension cord Caller ID worked. When i swapped to mine it did not. We then tried the test at my house, using my router, my cabling, etc. Same results. My MJ Plus did not work for caller ID. Will attempt to get through to the 'tedious techs at MJ' tomorrow; but the symptoms indicate a bad 'batch of MJ Plus'...I believe this is so in that many of the posts said they had MJ for 13,14, or 15 months...that is my time-frame also.

Still having the same problem. I guess the boys in India can't figure it out. It is no June 8 and it's still not working after 3 weeks. Tech said the problem could be fixed sometime soon. That was a week ago.
HEY MAGIC JACK let us know the status!

Same here. Caller-id stopped working on 5/30. Have had this unit for 30 months now.

One of the lawsuit document, referred to above, indicates that MJ has engineers working in Israel and customer service is out of Philippines.

In spite of the fact I had already done this several times about a week ago, based on the "fix" reported above, I tried again, and OMG, it worked !!

Life is good (??) again.

That God for this forum, since I couldn't find any info any other place, and believe me, I tried.

Thanks to ALL.

Hey guys,

I found out on another forum someone mentioned to change your ethernet cable because the one MJ provided is very flimsy. I didn't think this would work but I gave it a shot out of desperation and it actually worked. My caller ID now works!

Give it a shot!!
