What's the story on the new curved TV screens? Has anyone checked out the new curved TV screens? Is it a gimmick or is there some good reason for the design?

Same principle. Just inverted. Sit too far off axis and you won't be able to see squat.
It's a gimmick to drive up sales. Just like 3D and 4k on displays smaller than 100 inches.

to signmeuptoo94 Yeah lets go back to the 80's when projection TV's all has a curved screen that only looked good from one spot directly in front of it.
Curved screen = FAIL

11 is a lucky number (and a good movie reference)
Just when will we see holographic goggles - that is what I want!

to signmeuptoo94 Curved screens make sense for movie theatre projection systems, especially those with pretty wide screens (elongated aspect ratios), but it seems like the opposite would apply to -- uh, non-projection systems, whatever the hell you call it when the lighty-uppy thing is directly adjacent to the piece of screen it illuminates.

to signmeuptoo94 Re: What's the story on the new curved TV screens? Took a look at one at a professional AV trade show last week, wasn't impressed as much I was with other "flat" displays on the show floor. Marketing gimmick, that's all.
Now if they can wrap the screen all the way around for "full immersion", they'd have something!
to signmeuptoo94 Are u talking about the round picture glass tube from an old style Analog TV???
signmeuptoo94 Bless you Howie Premium Member join:2001-11-22 NanoParticle
No.
CRTs were convex, out of necessity, they were tube screens with e-guns inside them with a directed beam upon a phosphor screen that HAD to be curved to work in focus.
I am talking about the new LCD that one manufacturer is advertising as the "next great thing", which is bullshit, shameless hype to get people with too much money to go out and blow their wad...
