[TV] pixelatinghello last year when i had cable i had 2 whole house dvr and i never saw pixelating, i got cable again this time just 1 whole house dvr and 1 whole house hd box or what ever you call it, i already had a tech out to replace the hd box he also replace the splitter and put in a grounded something out side, at first he did not want to replace the hd box the signal was good but i made him watch for a min and it did, it still doing it new box and all, not as bad but though out watching something you see it at least twice a show, i know i need to call and hound them, but i am just asking if any one else has gone through this, what was the problem, how long did it last, etc, should i be better off getting a tivo ,sorry for the long post thank you for any info you can give if you had this problem before |

"pixelating" is usually a signal or video stream issue, not a box problem. |

The only time I had pixelating with TWC was during atmospheric conditions such as thunder storms. |

That's funny bc the same thing happens to me. TWC replaces the box, then acts as though there is no problem bc they don't see it when they stand here. I have saved recorded shows and showed it to them....they then replace the box. It's a never-ending cycle. They don't connect this with the glitches I have in phone service or internet service or random beeps on the alarm either. |

Hold down the select button on your Clikr-5 until a little blinking envelope icon appears on one or both boxes(Samsungs don't get the icon so hold select for about 8-10 seconds and then press the up arrow button above select). The very first page will show you the frequency, signal strength in dBmV, signal to noise ratio, and corrected/uncorrected blocks. IIRC only the DVR will have two sets of these as it has two tuners.
Most of these values are color coded except for the corrected/uncorrected. You want your signal above -15dBmV, SNR > 32 dBmV, and hopefully not too many uncorrected. A few corrected is ok since you won't have video problems as it is corrected. High-Def channels will fall on higher frequencies which lose more signal over distance and are more susceptible to damage to the coax system(for instance bending the coax with less than a 2-3" diameter will damage the dielectric and change the impedence from that point on).
If the problem happens while watching stuff on your playback set-top box, bring up the same diagnostic on either box and arrow down to home networking. This too is color coded and you need above 200 Mbps between the DVR and Playback. |

I had seen my parents' pixelated with and without digital cable boxes, but not with all channels. I assume this is a signal issue? |

It's an intermittent interruption in the video stream. It can happen anywhere from the broadcaster to the receiver in the box or TV. The QAM channel tunnel carrying the video stream from the local headend to the box or TV is a very common place for the interruptions to occur, but they're far from the only location they can happen. You can check the QAM channel with the built in box diagnostics, but if they show up clean it's very possible the problem is occurring further upstream. |
