DWDM 1Gbps and 10Gbps

Hi guys,

I hope you're doing fine, this is my first time on the forums. I've one question, I've a fiber PtP link through a local carrier and right now they installed us 1Gbps transceivers, the link goes over DWDM and uses one pair of single-mode fiber optics. I would like to know if it's possible to switch these 1Gbps transceivers with 10Gbps transceivers?

Thanks

Short answer? Maybe.

Depends on the equipment they are using for DWDM...

It may be as simple as replacing the transceiver - but it could be as complicated as having to replace/upgrade the entire shelf or worse yet, the entire ring.

Do you know the make/model of the equipment they are using; or can you get pics?

No, more than likely the card your sfp transceiver only supports a 1 gig, not a ten gig.

Anyway why? You are not going to get anymore speed.
