Voice activation - Saying "Hey Siri" while an iOS device is plugged in will activate Siri, allowing users to give hands-free commands. As in plugged into power? How useless is that?? |

On a practical level, that doesn't bother me at all. |

How useless is that?? Listening is probably is a massive battery drainer, so users would have an awful experience if it were on all the time. I guess, it's mainly designed for hands free use while driving. If you're not driving, it's pretty easy to press the button. |

The feature is pretty handy when in the car, and when I forget to turn my alarm before getting into bed. |

It seems they are running out of ideas to me.
I'm not a fan of tech for tech's sake. There looks like some useful things but they are scraping the barrel now.
Quite honestly, iOS7x has not been a good experience for me. I've had more bugs and crashes in these later releases than before (anecdotal, I know). My phone never used to need rebooting. Now it's once a week at least. Yes, I know a restore might be in order but I've never had to do that before. Please just make 8 stable. |

It looks like they are trying to catch up to some of the android phones with the voice activation and more flexibility and customization. |

I'll bring up the point again, if it were in listening mode constantly, (when not plugged in), how long before the battery fully drains? Listening and processing to every sound (searching for a match to the words "hey Siri"), has got to be a pretty intensive exercise. Let's assume the battery capacity were cut in half, and would drain after five or six hours, (not a wild assumption), the reputation of the devices would be irreparably damaged. iPhone would lose customers to competitors seeking a device that holds a charge for the full day. The brand would be destroyed. FWIW, Siri already has "raise to speak" » isource.com/2012/10/01/r ··· -use-it/ for those that hate pressing the button |

I guess, it's mainly designed for hands free use while driving. If you're not driving, it's pretty easy to press the button. If it works properly when plugged into the car it would be a great help to me. If I'd be able to get the music player to play a playlist handsfree while driving simply by saying "Hey Siri" and then the appropriate commands, that would be perfect. NefCanuck |

I've seen it in action and it works great (although, not in a car, which can be somewhat noisier than an office, the setting where I tried it) |

the battery eater tattle-tale is the best idea ever, they've introduced something like it into OSX as well but the iPhone one looks better. The problems with bajillions of apps is millions of ways 3rd parties can screw with the experience by writing poorly optimised apps I don't think the apple store approval process has any checks judging by some games that destroy your battery without showing much on the screen.. |

(I'm thinking the Ford SYNC system via BT, which comes with a decent noise cancelling mic) NefCanuck |

Spoke to friend who is using it. He said it works in car over BT if it's quiet...but if there's a lot of noise, instead of activating Siri, it assumes the extra noise is part of a song and tries to do a Shazam (built into iOS 8 / Siri) search. |

Interesting, what car is he using it in? Some cars have better noise rejection than others. The rental '13 MKZ I was in while in TX was so quiet at speed I was asked by my friend who called me if I was actually driving or pulled over when he called me. Now in my Fusion? Eh, not so much, but I *made* it that way NefCanuck |

That won't happen. iOS 7 is effectively dead. |

I think you're correct. |
