How to Stop This PopupHi, How do I stop the pictured popup from appearing. I don't want to install Internet Download Manager, but the popup keeps appearing. I have Windows popup blocker enabled, but that doesn't stop the popup. System is Windows 7 with all updates and IE11. Freddy |

You've already installed some crap. Don't try and stop the crap being crap - find the crap and uninstall it.
Look in the usual places - startup folder, run key in registry, browser plugin. |

It "may" already be installed (older version). This app. seems like it may have sneaked its way onto your machine when you downloaded/installed another application. See this link from their website on how you can disable it, or uninstall it. Have you looked in programs and features to see if it is actually installed? » www.internetdownloadmana ··· bi1.html |

Dave, aguen, I'm actually trying to help someone else over the phone with this problem. I've not experienced this type issue before, so I'm searching for answers. I think Dave likely has the answer. Based on what the other party sent me, I see that something called ib.Adnxs.com may be installed on this person's machine. I saw the name in one of the images he sent me of some site addresses he wanted me to see that are appearing on his computer. I Googled the name and found this (interesting): » malwaretips.com/blogs/ib ··· p-virus/Anyway, I'm only getting started on this quest and I expect I'll be busy for awhile. Much more work to be done. Sigh. Freddy |

From the message "Your free upgrade is ready to be installed" it's already been installed and you probably want to remove it and be done with it. A couple of results returned by Google for removing IDM » techdows.com/2010/05/how ··· mdm.html» download.chip.eu/en/how_ ··· 157.html |

Yeah, vaxvms, I've already explored that approach. The party I'm dealing with says it's not installed since he doesn't see it in Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Also, note that that popup also says to download Internet Download Manager, so there seems to be some problem with that popup saying both to download and to upgrade. Also, the upgrade comment may be referring to upgrading Windows to the program.
I've already Googled this thing to death. The party I'm working with is doing errands today, so my assistance is on hold until he's ready to continue this adventure.
He has a system backup, but I don't know how current it is. Installing the backup may be the best approach for resolving this problem.
I think there's malware on his system. Take a look at my post above and also the link I posted above, and I think you'll agree there is more to this than just uninstalling some software in Control Panel.
Note that that ib.Adnxs.com link that appears on his system connects to or launches some program whereby the malware owners get paid for getting people to download and install programs. Take a look at the link I posted. We'll see.

has he tried running a Malwarebyte scan? Maybe that can root it out. |

Sounds like a good time for "teamviewer" if he has a half ways decent internet connection. |

I guess the other party involved in this problem is busy doing things people do on weekends. He hasn't gotten back to me, so this thing is on hold until he makes contact. I'll try to update this post, if possible.

To note, this looks to be Internet Download Manager²
(note the "2") rather then IDM (Internet Download Manager or any other download manager). Browsing IDM2's forums, there looks to be no support, at all, for whatever this thing is. Seemingly you should be able to Uninstall it. (Now if that works ... .) |

Guys and Gals,
Finally made contact with the party with the problem. I had him download and run malware bytes. It found 56 items of malware, including Trojan and other stuff that produce pop-ups, steal personal information and display ads. Ha!
I think we cleaned his computer. He said he was no longer getting pop-ups after doing some test runs. Job done! Credit to malware bytes.
Freddy
P.S. Internet Download Manager was not installed. The pop-up was trying to get it installed. |
