I know the best way is call Comcast to register the new modem but my internet is under my landlord's name. She is in Taiwan on vacation and I don't have her contact information.
You should have gone to »
mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/ before wasting your money on a used SB5101 from ebay. The SB5101 is officially End Of Life; that means that if you already have one activated on an account, they will permit you to continue using it, but generally they will not activate another EOL modem if the original goes belly up. »
customer.comcast.com/hel ··· devices/If you and/or your landlord like the SB5101, I suggest that you purchase an SB6120 or SB6121 to replace it. And for the most reliable results when you do activate the "new" modem, make sure that you actually get a "new" modem, not a used modem; if a used modem is still listed on Comcast's database as belonging to another customer (especially if that customer owes Comcast money) or is listed as a stolen rental modem, they won't activate it.
