[request] Retiring a Fallen Members Name and Icon

I think it would be a nice and appropriate policy to retire the ICON and Handle of a Member in good standing who has passed away rather than offering it for reuse.

Added thought a new section similar to the retired Mod's listing to commemorate these Members.

I'll *object*.

I think it's a bad idea.

I would support a temporary restriction (say 2 years), on reusing those name. But don't make it permanent.

All over the Internet, we see people adopting names of dead heros as their identities. Why should we not allow members, after death, to be seen as heroes that are honored by the reuse of their names?

I cannot imagine adopting the name of anyone and certainly not a dead hero. I think that is an awful idea. You can't be someone else and you don't honor someone by trying to become them. You honor by remembering them not trying to become them. Each human being is totally unique.

Out of curiosity, where is this "all over the internet" people are doing this? I haven't seen it but then I don't do Facebook or Twitter....are those the "all over the internet" you refer to?

I don't do facebook or Twitter either.

Nevertheless, I see people posting as Darwin, as Einstein, and various other recognizable names.

Everyone knows that whoever is using a name like Darwin or Einstein, and other similar names of the famous dead would not be that person.

But using another's Name and Avatar here would or could imply as well as confuse people that deceased person is still alive and posting here on site.

It would also be a well deserved tribute to the members who have passed on.

Reserving the name for a time period, say 2-4 years, should be enough to minimize the deliberate use to confuse.
