Re: [iPhone] PSA: iOS 7.1.2 Released

said by haroldo:

I know it sounds crazy, but when I looked this morning, there was an app that said UPDATE in App Store and then it started to update. The WiFi indicator was off.

Were you connected to iTunes at the time and by chance it is set to automatically download app updates?

No, iPhone was only connected to power.

Ok... I'm putting on my tinfoil hat now. This is getting crazy!

Updated OTA with no issues: iPad Mini and iPhone 5.
Updated via iTunes with no issues: iPhone 5S and 4S.

Bluetooth killed immediately following, and didn't notice any ghost signaling causing auto updates!

Use cellular data off, wifi off, phone using LTE, twitter app in process of downloading

Bizarre
...or am I completely misunderstanding how it should work?

Did you update twitter on another device? You need to turn that "Updates" toggle off

Twitter, on WiFi only iPad, hasn't updated yet.
iPad set to automatic download updates when available

Now I'm starting to wonder if I've misunderstood the functions of those settings too.

I wonder if you need to disable it here:

Choose Settings > Cellular APP STORE

»support.apple.com/kb/ht4146

So far both my iPhone and iPad were updated but both hung forever a reboot brought it back without issue and the update showing correctly. Not sure why it did that on both devices. Glad it didn't brick them hehe.

That's not a great option...
quote:
...
If cellular data is off, all data services use Wi-Fi, including email, web browsing, push notifications, and others. If cellular data is on, carrier charges may apply. For example, using certain features and services that transfer data, such as Siri and Messages, could result in charges to your data plan.
Assuming GPS would suffer, too, no?

be warned!

Most of your cydia tweaks will not work with 7.1.2 it seems, a bunch of tweaks i had on 7.0.4 now are showing I need to purchase them.

main page of cydia, tap my account and login. Yes some tweaks wont work on 7.1.x yet but most in fact do.

So the purchase button means it won't work?
Because I can assure every tweak I got for ex like Barrel I didn't have to buy it.
I did buy BiteSMS because I wanted real updates and features so i logged into my account and downloaded it fine, noticed if i hadn't logged in I had no results when i searched it.
Wish I can go back to 7.0.6

Well of course its not going to work if you pirated Barrel, come on now that's common sense

Apparently, this glitch/bug predated the 7.1.2 update »discussions.apple.com/th ··· /6433598
I wonder how much money people are wasting in data overage charges because their apps are updating using cellular data?
I imagine >90% of users aren't aware
This, IMHO, is a pretty big problem

Does no one else here have this issue?

I don't have this issue because I don't have auto-updates enabled on my iPhone.

Not sure if this ever occurred before upgrading, but this morning (after 7.1.2) I noticed that apps were being updating despite the fact that WiFi was turned off.
I've always had Settings/iTunes & App Store ... Use Cellular Data set to off (before) and it is still set to off.
Is this a bug in the update?

this bug seems to have been fixed in ios 8
