It didn't really accomplish anything for the music industry. Recording revenues for the US music industry fell below $7 billion last year (in 2013 dollars) for the first time in decades. Music downloads decreased for the first time ever, even through the recession.
All the talk about how they need to innovate and make their content more available like they have done through Spotify hasn't paid off. And unless people start subscribing, will not pay off. It doesn't matter that less people pirate. |

The interesting question is, Are revenues falling off or is entertainment starting to come closer to its actual market value.
As in was it artificially inflated before by the limits of a handful of powerful labels who had the resources to mass produce and mass market albums. Technology has now allowed for a wider array of indie labels. |
