Hi MarkySkarky,
Thanks again.
The good news is that I can now communicate with the router and all VLANs from the AP. I correctly configured the Dot11Radio1.40 interface as you suggested. I also added
switchport trunk native vlan 40
to
interface Wlan-GigabitEthernet8
on the router side. I also changed the IP on BVI1 to 172.16.40.2 255.255.255.240.
The bad news is that the client cannot route. I've assigned a static IP of 172.16.40.5 /28 DG: 172.16.40.1 (should this be the IP of the BVI?) and I can't even ping the DG. I guess it's because of the missing
bridge 40 route ip
command that you mention is missing:
said by markysharkey:You also need to add bridge 40 route ip (or it may be ieee for the non native WLAN's) at the end of the config.
Should this be on the router or AP config?
On the router side I get:
Spanning Tree protocol for Bridge Group 40 has not been configured.
and on the AP side, I get:
C897-AP(config)#bridge 40 route ip
%command not allowed, route ip only allowed on bridge group 1
On the AP side, I can add
bridge 40 protocol ieee
, however, it makes no difference. I also tried
bridge 1 protocol ieee
but this got me in a terrible mess with Spanning Tree errors all over the place. I couldn't remove the command and what is worse, I accidentally did a
wri me
.

Thank you for the heads up. I have left the info in there but I hope everything like password hashes, SSH keys, IP addresses, domains have all been changed.
