First of all, I'd figure out which proxy you want to use... I haven't used either, so I can't comment for or against either
one. Not sure if anyone else has used them either and has some input for you.

After that is figuring out if either one has a particular way of being deployed... generally speaking, you'll deploy it in
either inline mode or redirect / WCCP mode. Again, I haven't used either so I'm not sure if either model can only be deployed
in one or the other, or can do both.

Until that's done, we can't help you with any sort of config.

IMO placement of the proxy server should not matter as long as it is reachable to both the clients & gateway. However, some proxy boxes may require a specific topology, as already sited by HELLFIRE
