Social Security Office RANT

I went to the Social Security Office to help my Mom get a copy of a statement of benefits she needed for a loan yesterday. First of all, we tried to get this info on-line by trying to register her and the registration failed miserably and locked her out.
The website requested that we go to the local office.

BIG MISTAKE! What should have taken 5 minutes turned into a 3.5 hour ordeal.
I'm still trying to figure out why it took the clerk that long perform the print out.
Most of the folks there were also there for simple things such as name change, duplicate card, change of address, etc and they were also waiting for over 3 hours.
WTF???

If you don't know by now, Social Security is closing offices throughout and they are cutting back on hours. They are encouraging people to get on-line, but most of the seniors I know need help with the registration process.

You could have requested that letter by telephone as well. Very easy to do. I would suggest setting up that online account to avoid any future trouble.
