Surfboard SB5100...time to upgrade?

Hi,
I have 25 Mbps Down/1 Mbps Up service with SECTV.com.
I have a 2005 vintage SB5100.

Would I see any improvements with a new modem? The provider owns the modem, but I don't pay a rental fee.
I think I would need to make a good argument of improved performance to get them to provide a new modem.
Thanks for the help.

Based on what I read at the website, no you would not get better performance. There is no mention of DOCSIS 3.0 Channel Bonding. The top service of about 30 Mbps in the Wilkes-Barr area is below the maximum 38 Mbps of a DOCSIS 2.0 modem.

I would make sure the ventilation holes on the SB5100 are free of dirt and dust. If you can afford it, I would protect the modem electricity power supply with a good un-interruptible power supply. You look to be good for quite some time with this ISP.

»Service Electric Cablevision News says they do have D3, so you may or may not see a difference with a new modem. Are you noticing any slowdowns? If not then a new modem won't do anything. Even if you are, a new modem may not help depending on where the congestion is.
