Try a 12.4 IOS. And you're sure it's a "WIC-4ESW" and not a "HWIC", right?

The 1700s use the WIC variant (It's a 100mbps switch, but any routing is limited to the 7mbps backplane of the WIC interface). HWIC came out on the 1800, 2800, 3800 series.

I know. That's why I asked. If he's plugged an HWIC into the 1721, it won't be able to use it. ('tho it shouldn't cause it to crash.)

It is WIC4ESW exactly. I have ever tried V12.4. I still have the same problem.

Got another WIC-4ESW to test with -- maybe it's a bum card.

Least according to this the 1700 will take it.

Other crazy question, the 1700 boots fine with 12.3(25)AdvSec and 12.4 without the
WIC card present without issue?
