Ugh .. Paint pealed off .. :(

So I did some painting today..

Painted to gas meter, looks great.

I thought, hell. I'll paint the electrical meter box as well.....

Cleaned it. Primed it. Painted it.

I didn't remove the tape after the first coat because I knew I would need another.
Did my second coat, removed the tape......

AAAARRRGGGHHHHH the paint pealed right off the caulking around the meter box... But not on all sides...

So, do you think I need to remove all the caulking around the meter box, paint and recaulk? Like I said, the paint stuck to the other side just fine.....

The caulk looks like it is holding on the vinyl trim.

I was having such a good day too...

Yeah, paint won't stick to silicone caulking. You could try to remove all the caulk, paint, then re-caulk. Sounds like a lot of trouble for little payoff though (unless this is in a highly visible area?).

There is paintable caulk. But again you have to remove old stuff 1st.
I learned the hard way:\.

Mr Obvious, yet again: Try to avoid skin contact with any solvents. They will be gnawing at your liver and gizzard in a matter of xx seconds after contact with skin.

This is an excellent product, if required, although it won't trump silicone:

»www.insl-x.com/product-d ··· g-primer

"primer-sealer with unparalleled adhesion to the most challenging surfaces, including glossy tile, PVC, vinyl, plastic, glass, glazed block, glossy paint, pre-coated siding, fiberglass, and galvanized metals."

I used STIX for a recent paint project, and it seems to do what the claims suggest.

Not sure what the new coating on the meter box is, but it looks like rattle can spray paint. A visit to the paint supplier's web site and a look at the TDS should provide compatibility information.
