Re: Symmetrical Speeds

Just to follow up on my situation...

On my FIFTH phone call, I got a billing rep supervisor who transferred me to retention. Retention was able to apply a $5 credit for my current bill and then they put in an order for what they dubbed "the offline team" to go in and reinstate a recurring $5 credit for the duration of my contract.

I have to wait and see if the credit actually shows up on my next bill and thereafter.

Why I had to speak to retention to fix a billing issue is beyond me. And I still don't know if my issue is actually fixed. And all of this mess came about because of an automatic "free" upgrade that I did not initiate on my end.

If the service wasn't so damn reliable (and the only alternative Comcast) I'd be gone in a heartbeat.

Is there no upload fluff on 15/15? I currently get 24/14.

just retested it, 80+/80+ baby!!!

this just cracks me up

i love how brighthouse always gives me a server in Dallas when they dont even serve that area (»brighthouse.com/about/ab ··· eas.html), and Ookla is the same exact service that runs speedtest/pingtest.net which has various servers right near me (most likely as a lame attempt to carnival-game peoples results and make their speeds look bad)

Finally downgraded from 150/150 to 75/75 (upgraded from 50/50 to 150/150 to get moved to GPON and get a new ONT).

Previously was getting 153/162.

I would love to go back to 150/150 speeds. I got myself the 150/35 plan when it came out for only $20/month more over the past speed. 150/65 was only maybe $10 more. But I was forced to drop to 75/35 when my contract ended. Now, to get back to 150/150, its $70/month more.

What kind of pricing is that? Is this wrong, or is everyone else in the same boat with that kind of jump in pricing?

I have 75/75 with TV which is $60 per month for internet at the moment. Note 50/50 and 75/75 being the same price is not a typo. Pricing available to me for upgrading and downgrading is as follows:

25/25 - $50 - $2.00/mbit
50/50 - $60 - $1.20/mbit
75/75 - $60 - $0.80/mbit
150:150 - $120 - $0.80/mbit
300:300 - $190 - $0.63/mbit
500:500 - $280 - $0.56/mbit

Symmetrical speeds is coming. Will be free for existing customers and new.

I have 150/65 and signed up for my rewards in July and did not got the free 150/150 upgrade, I called up Verizon CS, about 45 minutes ago (Sat. 08/30/14 Time: 5:00pm eastern) first I asked her is there an extra charge for symmetrical speeds she said hold on let me check your account 1 minute later shes says its $40.00 more per month, I told her about the Verizon TV commercials that said there was no extra charges for this upgrade, she puts me on hold again comes back and says ok you'll get the upgrade at no additional cost, she said the speed should take effect about midnight tonight. hmmm lets see what happens.

just did the speed test at 5:55pm sat. 08/30/14

damn, that was fast, she said it would take effect at midnight.

Nice how they try to get you to pay for something that is supposed to be free. I can't believe that these people don't know about the symmetrical upgrades being free, so I have to assume it is intentional.
If it is not intentional, then it is complete incompetence.

Yes I had something similar. Before my 150mb/s contract was up, the difference between the 150/65 tier and the 75/35 tier was $20. I I figured I would save $20 and then go back if I needed. But as soon as I got a new contract for 75/35( a couple of weeks before symmetrical started) the price to go back up to the 150/65 tier was $50 more.

Now I'm kicking myself for not keeping the 150Mb/s tier. If I had realized this was the case I would have never dropped down. Just about every day I wish I had the faster speeds because something takes twice as long to download as it used to.

Got a recorded message the other day that I had been upgraded.

Here's the new result (originally a 50/25 provision):

The D/L has not changed but the U/L went from ~37 Mbps to what you see above.

I let the symmetrical speed hit me without contacting Verizon. All those billing issues mentioned here worried me. So far so good and my upload speed is just slightly under my download. 75/75 now! I never was contacted directly although an email may have been sent.

I still have the 150/35 Internet, Ultimate TV NY DMA, and Phone triple play package. My speed is still around 155/42. I read in this forum that I would not be upgraded because my package is discontinued. I called Verizon months ago and was told the same thing. I would have only paid $10.00 more for the upgraded 150/150 triple play bundle before July 31st.

Spoke to Verizon last night as I currently enjoy 75-35. In south-central PA they offer 150-150, 300-300, and finally 500-500, or I can downgrade to 25-25. Not worth paying an extra 45.00 a month for a speed equal up and down. Speed match is not offered to those who have Rewards Plus in southcentral PA. unless you wish to pony up a few more bucks.

I just noticed the increase in upload speed just now. I know ISPs are usually stingy when it comes to upload speeds so I'm grateful for the upload speed increase.

You will get it upgraded to 75/75 soon, since that is a Quantum tier that is eligible for the upgrade.

I believe this applies to everyone regardless of location.... perhaps the change just didnt make it to you yet?

Where exactly are you located?

I'm in between Carlisle and Mechanicsburg, but I manually forced my plan change from 50/25 to 50/50 (then did some upgrades/downgrades to get to 75/75 eventually).

Here was my experience, I am also in southcentral PA. Signed up for rewards to go from 75/35 to 75/75. Never got the upload speed match. Got my recent bill, cost for STB rental went up from ~$28/3 boxes to ~$36/3 boxes. . Called to get the price adjusted back to where I was before and asked about the 75/75 tier. Was told it was not available to me, I could have 50/50 or 150/150. Then the rep suggested we downgrade to 50/50 as that should allow us to upgrade to 75/75. That did not work and when she tried to move me back to my original 75/35, guess what, that was not available either. So now I'm at a lower speed then I was just by signing up for the stupid rewards package. Waiting for a call back from the higher level tech support on Thursday.

Its pretty fast, as long as the node/backhaul doesn't get overloaded. There have been times I have had 7 megs down, 90 megs up.
