[Networking] Symmetrical Tier Upgrade resulted in lower download speedsI just wanted to get a rough count of the people who seem to have lost some downstream bandwidth during the upgrade to the "symmetrical" tiers.
Information such as BPON/GPON, Previous Tier, Bundle Type, and Off/On-Contract should help.
If you have done anything to remedy this with customer service or whatever, please let us know too, as that would be the goal here to possibly find a remedy for this situation.
I had BPON 50/25 and was consistently getting 58.5/44.1 and after the upgrade, my connection dropped to about 49.5/71.1Mbps. The extra upload is nice, but not at the cost of download... |

15/5, triple play, on contract--don't know which bpon/gpon
I signed up for MyRewards+ late last night/early this a.m.
Speed tests--done about 5:30pm eastern--show about 25/5 (24.81/5.22 (Ashburn, VA = near me in Reston, VA); 18.52/4.66 (San Francisco); 24.74/5.10 (Harrisburg, PA).
I've done speed tests in the past which have pretty consistently shown 15/5 so I do think that at least the download side has had a speed increase--so I may be an anomaly if others are losing download speed--but (obviously) no increase in speed has occurred on the upload side... |

I'm enrolled in the rewards program, and on the Ultimate Employee" plan. I should have Internet speeds of 50/25, but I'm testing at 6/4 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

One thing I noticed when I placed my order, within 15 minutes, my download speed DROPPED. But it took a few more hours for the upload speed change to take effect. My ONT went offline at that time for the change to take place. So until that happens, you might only see half the change.
As far as seeing 6/4, wow that's weird.
I'm actually dealing with retentions to try to convince them to upgrade my ONT to GPON so I can get the 75/75 package. |

I'm on GPON. I just got home and tested with the FiOS speed test. I am still showing 84Mb/s down. But the Upload speed is now 91Mb/s for me. |

I'm on GPON in Buffalo area. They provisioned me up from 50/25 (58/50) to 75/75 which now seeing (68/74).
5 months on contract, 2 play (Prime HD), cablecard only.
My VZ router is old (4+ years), rev F but I do not use it. I'm provisioned ethernet and use a Cisco router (real one).
My bill went down $20, so I am not complaining. I think they will probably recalibrate once they get things rolled out.
The ITU GPON spec has 2.4/1.2 or 2.4/2.4 profiles. Maybe they updated to the new profile, or the fact that upload is not a point of contention unless crazies run speed tests. |

Alright well the guy I talked to @ Verizon said he has no clue what they did with the provisioning on these. He said we should still be seeing the extra bandwidth for VoD as it's still needed obviously. But he said he couldn't really open a trouble ticket since we are within 10% of expected bandwidth :-(
On a positive note, it seems Verizon is going to front the bill to upgrade me to GPON so I can get 75/75, so hopefully I end up at ~85/90 like the rest of you folks on the 75Mb package. I'm doing this by upgrading to 150Mb then will be able to downgrade shortly after. |

Verizon only cares whether or not you can access their internal network at the advertised speed: » www.verizon.com/speedtest/If you're using any other server it's likely on the Internet and Verizon doesn't care how fast your Internet access is. |

GPON getting 58/64 in NYC » www.speedtest.net/result ··· 8163.pngLooks like it's BPON users who are having issues but more results will confirm this |

Is this the first time an Internet service provider has offered speed tiers that are lopsided in favor of the upload speed and not the download speed? This is awesome. |

I went online and joined the rewards club and saw that it would upgrade the upload speed accordingly |

15/5 w/ TV on BPON, 2 months into contract Before:
After:
Count me in - lost 10 mb of download.
I am assuming that I should be @25/25 soon as this tier no longer exists?
I see that I can upgrade to 25/25 for no charge, but I'm going to wait for billing to settle down before trying that.

But he said he couldn't really open a trouble ticket since we are within 10% of expected bandwidth :-( You need to run the speedtests while playing a VOD program. That should use up either 8 or 14Mbps (depending on whether it is an h264 or mpeg2 program) and drop your speedtest outside of the expected range. They should be able to open a ticket for you then. Same goes for those on the 15 plan who lost 10Mbps download. |

I don't know how you guys are all getting over provisioned, I've been GPON for a while and I'm still pinned to my package. |

Same. Bpon and went from ~25-26Mbps to ~15-16Mbps said by thepawn:I don't know how you guys are all getting over provisioned, I've been GPON for a while and I'm still pinned to my package. Had extra bandwidth for years literally on every speed tier I've had. |

I lost download speed. I just opened a ticket in the direct forum.
When I was 50/25 I would hit 58/35.
Now with 50/50, I am getting 48/45.
What is GOING on? |

Guys,
Open up tickets in the direct forum if you are having issues losing download speed when upgrading.
Was this whole thing a Verizon Parlor trick? |

Was this whole thing a Verizon Parlor trick? No, I and a couple others did get 58/64 after going 50/50. The question is what is in common with the people who aren't getting download fluff on the 50/50 plan. Are you on BPON or GPON? |

I believe I have a BPON ONT, but GPON is available in my area.
Are you on a GPON ONT? |

Several reps told me they won't do anything about it since we are within 10% of our ordered speeds. Already tried this on the Direct forum and via phone (using Retentions/Elite Team). BPON ONT Motorola ONT1000-M3 (for now). Switching to GPON this week. |

I'm sure something got messed up with the parameters when the new tiers were entered into the system. Again, it will probably get fixed. Before breaking out the pitchforks - i'd see if NYCDave has any input. He's 1 of the more intelligent (and helpful) folks on this forum. **Sorry Dave** |
