Re: [Networking] Symmetrical Tier Upgrade resulted in lower download speedsAs of this AM my new 75/75 is running 82/78 (versus 68/74 yest) so it appears they have straightened things out in my hood. |

I know I'll get flack - But you're getting 49.25 out of 50 - even I can see how a CSR might not take you too seriously... |

What's troublesome is, some retained the previous speed of 58 and some ended up with 49 missing the fluff for VOD. However, ScrawnyB upload speed is outstanding. My upload's max is 63 Mbps. There seems to be two sets of provisioning, only V knows. |

Final Answer From Direct Forum:
The speeds from your posted test are in range and we will not be able to adjust them further.
This is not acceptable. I'm pursuing other avenues on this. |
|
|
What do you mean "it's not acceptable"?! |
|
|
I think he's saying download speed of 49 is not acceptable when he's used to getting 58. It is the same as mine. |

The fluff is free and VZ is not obligated to give it out to anyone in the first place.
But good luck with other avenues. |

I agree but if they have to remove the fluff, it must be across the board not only for us lower tiers. How is that if they provision your 75/75 to an actual speed of 74/92? Will you be happy? |

74 out of 75 is great. Better then 30.
I suggest you wait till they resolve all the issues on their end with this new roll out. |
|
|
No problem, let's see your 75 is now 82 right? Easy to say, since you have not experienced the downgrade. |

translation... you have been giving me more than advertised speeds for free. you took them away and now I am getting exactly what I'm paying for. this is wrong. I will fight this.
I don't know, man. good luck with that. |

This is not an "upgrade" in my mind if it lowers (aka downgrades) the quality of part of my existing services. If I went from 58 to 49, I was downgraded.
More importantly, I want to know why this is different and not the same across the board. We have varying levels of "fluff" on both upstream and downstream across connections after the upgrade. Mine is extremely high on the upload fluff for some reason, while there's some other individuals getting over 90-100Mb on one side on the 75Mbps tier.
While I would agree, 49.xx/50 is *NOT* bad, it's the fact that it *WAS* faster. That's a whole 1MB/sec in download speed I lost. That is a considerable ~15% decrease in download speed. |

If you think you are entitled to fluff, think again.
Go back to cable or DSL and let us know how much fluff you get.
I was with Comcast for a decade and I got exact speed I was paying for. Far more issues such as; 3 rented routers being replaced each year do to failure, frequent outage when it rained and a crappy customer service as a bonus. Prices going up every 6 months under a contract.
When I called Comcast to cancel my service, they only offered me a free HD box.
With VZ I got HD box and I pay $20 less for 2.5 speed on triple plan.
I almost cried when I called VZ to get a clarification on a billing change, because their customer service is far more superior and CSR spoke fluent English.
Call Comcast at 3am, and CSR male or female will have exact same names. I cussed their tier 2 level tech for being a tool.
And I won't get in to my front lawn being ruined by a Comcast van while it was visiting my neighbors.
Try looking at a bigger picture beyond the fluff.
VZ can keep the fluff. |

It does not, and many cable companies actually do overprovision speed tiers now (e.g., I get 118Mbps on my "101Mbps" plan with Cablevision). TWC and Comcast also over provision AFAIK.
But now we're getting pretty off-topic |

After reading through this thread and the larger symmetrical thread, it seems to me that the vast majority of provisioning problems where users lost their "fluff" happened on the 50/25 or below tiers. It also seems like virtually all of them have BPON ONTs. The only "solution" I've read is to seemingly PM a member here to "fix" the issue?
Methinks I'm going to hold off for a while on this one... |
