Re: [Networking] Symmetrical Tier Upgrade resulted in lower download speedssaid by rChaz:I was wondering if "data-only" plans would also normally have a bit of fluff It has been my experience, that the only lines provisioned with "fluff", are ones with VOD needs - FIOS TV subscribers. Data-only users get exactly what they pay for. Though, I know of at least one triple-play subscriber that got a free upgrade from 15/5 to 25/25. They got a snail-mail letter. As for my experiences with this - I was a 50/25 double-play subscriber (TV too), and I was getting 58/39. I'm on GPON, I think. I signed up for the rewards program, and I was getting 59/59, for the most part. But I saw that I could drop down my internet speed to 25/25, and save $10/mo, so I did that. Pity that they didn't offer me the ability to drop down my Select HD to just Local TV and save another $10-15. As an aside, apparently TW offers a $15/mo 2/1 naked internet plan that anyone can subscribe to. I would be happy (much happier) paying VZ $30/mo for 5/5 service. |

In other words, do they know why this is happening to people and do they plan to fix it systemically? I notice that my DL speed was bumped from 49+ to 58+ sometime in the last 5 days, and this didn't involve my having to ask. So it looks like they already are "fixing" this systematically. I'm on a data-only plan, so I guess even those can have some fluff. UL speed had been and still is 64+. (My 50/50 provisioning was an upgrade from 15/5 rather than just Rewards symmetry, though I signed up for Rewards also.) |

That's pretty much what I get at 50/50. I wound up upgrading today after a misunderstanding in the Verizon Direct forum. At this point I'd rather pay the $5 a month more for 50/50, than try top get 35/35 back and deal with billing issues. :/

it looks like those using moca are getting about 58 / 61..ish I'm not upgraded yet, but every one in a while-- I'm seeing weird speed tests.. my downstream fluctuates from 70 to 100mbit on the first speed test and afterwards drops down to regular (especially if I haven't done any in a few hours) and upstream is regular. Not sure what that's about..
apparently some QOS/latency tweaks are happening somewhere.. |

I can tell you that that's what I've been getting with the new symmetrical deal as well. Just like Virtual Larry above, I was getting 58/39. And now I'm also getting 58/61...ish:
I'm a happy camper. Of course, who knows what's happened with the peering. My Youtube has been working fine for months, but will this switch to the symmetrical speeds mean it's a whole new ball game and my youtube peering might be impacted? I sure hope not. |

MOCA is the coax the runs to the FIOS router. If you are on Ethernet cabling, it is possible your speeds might be different. Can anybody confirm?
In researching the topic MOCA 1.1 is supposed to be good for around 175mbits throughput, but reports vary.. possibly based on the revision of the modem and/or condition/length of the coax (some are moca 1.0?).
BTW, still not upgraded, meh. Tomorrow will be 1 week, I'll give a call n see.. |

I am in NYC, just got an email saying my connection is now upgraded to symetrical.
My Rev I router has an ethernet connection to the ONT.
Running verizon.com/speedtest now shows 56 down 60 up. Before the upgrade I was getting 58 down 38 up.
So upload is significantly improved, but download is now slightly degraded.
Since I don't upload much, I rather have it as 6X down and 5X up. |

The first day I got converted it was a bit bouncy, but it's been rock solid since: |

A day later and my speeds have improved.
Now 58 down 64 up.
So my download is back to what it was before the upgrade, my upload is the best it has ever been. |

I had to call, but it's finally taken care of.. sad part is, I hardly use my desktop these days, so I will barely get much use of it since my tablet throughput maxes out at 35 up and 40 down-- see there still is a good reason to buy a laptop instead of a tablet-- it will take another generation to get up to speed with gigabit throughput on them-- or pay laptop prices anyway for the convenience.
I haven't seen any significant improvement on the downstream with streaming video or the like yet.. I'll have to do some more testing to see.
Anyone actually using the BW to max out the upload? |

I had 75/35 and they upgraded me free to 75/75 but I've been averaging 30-40 mbps download and 90-94mbps upload. I pmed nycdave hopefully he can help. no one at Verizon has been able to help me yet. they sent me a automated text saying it was fixed. it was NOT fixed. still the same issue a tech should be coming by tmw morning but I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas to get this resolved before then? my house is kind of junky lol |

I too was upgraded from 75/35 to 75/75 and now my speed is SLOWER than when I had 75/35. I've had 2 different techs come to my house in the past month and the problem still hasn't been resolved. This is very frustrating. |

Before Upgrade: 58/38 (TV fluff)
After Upgrade: 58/61 |

Anyone with 15/15 getting upload of more than 15mbps? The max I have ever seen on my connection is just under 14mbps. |
|
|
Well the tech came back out at 5pm and switched the router to the revision I or red one. Now the speeds are testing correct. I have no idea why that made a difference but it is working now.
I was testing via Ethernet cable. |

I have the triple play. I get about 23mbps download but only about 14mbps upload. |

said by spc111:Anyone with 15/15 getting upload of more than 15mbps? No. Upload is always less than 15Mbps (generally 14.xMbps) with 15-16Mbps down. For me, TV service is currently in vacation mode. And download has not gone back to 25Mbps that the 15/5 had. Hasta la vista bonus speed. Found it wasn't really needed anyway. |

I think you are only supposed to get the extra "fluff" if you get TV service. I have TV service, but upload speed never exceeds 14 mbps. I am not sure if upload is also supposed to have some fluff if you have TV service (which I do). |
