[OS X] Yosemite -- Public Beta Release tomorrow (July 24/2014)

Wondering who all here is going to download the public beta tomorrow for the latest OS X?

I'll give it a whirl for sure. I haven't had any issues with other pre-release software. Nothing too critical on this machine, and everything is backed-up already anyway.

I have downloaded it. I have had Safari lock up to the point I was forced to restart the machine (late 2012 rMBP), this happened with Preview 3 as well. Other than that everything works great. the handoff with iOS 8 is very nice.

I wouldn't do it unless you are prepared to have some instabilities.

Install it on a non-primary drive.

I'll download it but I cannot guarantee I'll have the testicular fortitude to install it

Will be installing it on my work laptop to test out the new UI mostly. Updates will come as they go but as long as Chrome + Royal TSX works I am fine since I work mostly on VMs.

I'll download the beta in the coming weeks. I'm not ready for a day 1 consumer beta.

In the long run this will immensely help Apple create a more stable OS. Their sample pool historically for testers has been too small to fully recreate their user base. Bugs slipped through because nobody used the machine in a certain to create the bug. Now with a much larger sample base this won't be as much of an issue.

I look forward to the larger testing group.

I do like that they have gone through a couple of developer betas before releasing a public beta.

I'm a little confused by this - I was hoping to install this on an external and dual-boot so the possibility of messing up my primary install was minimal; but it looks like I'd need to have Mavericks on that external already...? In which case I don't know if/how I can install Mavericks onto that if I already have it installed on my internal HD. Ugh. I'm so PC savvy but there are still things I need to learn with OSX. :/

I will be trying this should work. Make a clone of your current drive to an external HD. Boot from external and install the beta. When I get it downloaded I will update if it worked.

I can't wait to get mine going. It's about 95% done ghosting to my external - then on to the download/installation!

I entered the redemption code but I don't see it downloading anywhere...? When I go to enter it again it says it was already redeemed. :/ Also - holy crap external HD is much slower than SSD haha

It should show up under the Purchases tab. If it doesn't, you can go back to the beta program website and generate a new code - some people have been reporting issues with codes coming up "already used".
