[Modem/Router] Which router to choose?

It's time to change my Linksys WRT54G router. It was working OK but the signal strength is low. I have the router in my living-room (in condo) and in my bedroom (which is 20 meters away from the living-room) there are only 2 bars which is not enough to watch IPTV. What are the options/choices? Any reply is highly appreciated.

If wireless signal strength is your only concern there is an option to keep your router (as it is one of the best routers of the past decade), turn wireless off and buy an access point with either N or AC support. Keep in mind that you need to upgrade wireless adapters on all your laptops and/or desktops.

Thanks for the response. How about Ipad? It can't be upgraded.

IPad trully cannot be upgraded. If you have latest iPad it has 5GN built in. What is your primary wireless device?

depends how much you want to spend. I had to replace mine two weeks ago. I got this one as I did not want to spend much at this time. I like it.

If you are running Tomato, turn up the signal strenth?

Buy a better antenna for the router?

Move the router?

Under $120. I am considering Asus RT-N66U. But it's expensive. If I could a signal like from Asus from something cheaper I'd be satisfied.

I don't run Tomato. Do you think it can make the signal two times stronger?

why do you think you need to speed allot to get a good router? Here is the more powerful version for wireless.

I don't need to speed a lot. I want to have a stronger signal.

Unfortunately my router is v8 and Tomato will not work on it.

Be careful with this setting.

The more you increase TX power, the more noise you introduce into the wireless band. So while you will be able to connect at further distances, your actual speed will be less.

Can you locate the router in a central location so all rooms will get a decent signal? My wireless router used to be at my desktop PC at one end of the basement and the signal was poor at the other end of the house, especially if it had to pass through the steel beam running the length of the house. I bought a couple of cheap 10m ethernet cables from China and relocated the router on top of the heating duct in the middle of the house.
