Can I get Bell Fibe TV without Internet?

A little background:

We are so tired of Videotron cable TV:
- expensive for the few channels we really watch
- limited choice of English HD channels (for example no Comedy Network in HD)
- buggy terminal with lousy software (older SA was better but they forced us to upgrade to buy a new one!!!)
- we pay around $70 per month.

Our phone line with Bell is almost $50 with taxes per month.

Our 25 VDSL internet is with Acanac and we are happy with it (about $60/month)
*************************************************************
Questions:
1. Can we get Bell Fibe TV without Internet?
- If yes what are the best deals we could get on it?

2. If no, what are the best deals we could get on the package?

3. What would be the best deal on phone line with Bell?

No you can't.

Also, why don't you try Acanac IPTV ?

I have been following the progress of it for a while and it is still too limited for our taste (choice and quality of the signal).

Hmmm, what's wrong with the quality of the signal ?

Sorry, I want to stay on topic and do not want to discuss in this post Acanac TV.

Yes you can.

I have it.
There is a catch to getting it.
You need to order FibeTV with internet, after the first bill, call detentions tell them that you don't need it, they will change it to zero-rated.

Thank you Nitra,
Will it cancel my internet access during that first month to Acanac or I will have both?

No, they will install a new loop.

You can have both.
The Zero-rated internet addon is only available through retentions, but I had no issues getting it, and I know many others that have it.
It sucks paying for a month for it, maybe, because you already have a bell line, you can ask retentions about it now.

And Nitra, how did you come up with such a creative solution?

I was in your shoes a few years ago, swapped from Videotron to bell, didn't want the internet with them. Finally they relented.

Glad you answered my post because of all the other non-sayer I already lost hope that it was feasible.

I guess I should mention the fact that I have another Internet provider while ordering the Fibe TV so they do not screw up my current internet access?

For sure, with fibetv, they will typically run a new pair to the house anyway.

The 3 story building I am in, has already Bell FTTN box in our Power Room (up to 50Mbps). Do you mean they will run that line or from that Power Room to my appartment?

Perhaps, if it's already set for 50, they may just use an alternate pair.

Thanks again Nitra!

Now I hope I could get some enticing pricing info from Bell reps...

You should call bell to verify but since you already have a landline with bell it's probably cheaper to switch both your TV and your internet to Bell. They generally have pretty lucrative offers for triple play customers and they're usually even better if you're in Quebec.

Yeah I know your happy with Acanac 25/10, but Bell is going to offer you a better deal than $60 since youre going to have a triple play. Prob $39.99 for 6-12 months. Also they will drop your land line down a bit for bundling and having 3 services.

For your land line, I'd consider switching it to freephoneline.ca if you want to save that 50$/month you're throwing away...

I agree with you, I feel like we are throwing away money but we need/like the regular phone line when there is no power + we call Europe and Afrika and have relatively cheap long distance with Yak and Skype is not always an option :-(

For 50$/month, get a UPS/battery and power your modem-router-ATA with it. You should cover the cost of the UPS in a few months. You might want to check voip.ms for oversea rates. I don't know how they hold up to the competition for those regions.

Thank you blanalex for this creative solution. So, if I switch to voip.ms, I get to:
- keep my phone number?
- if I do not use it, I do not pay anything?

Where do I buy the gear for it? (ideally brick-and-mortar) so I can see it...

I use Anveo, works great.

Takes 2 or so weeks to port your number from Bell.

You can port your number to Voip.ms. Normally, it's a 25$ fee (one time).

You choose either a 0.99$/month plan if you want only pay per use, or you can have a 4.99$/month plan that include unlimitted Incoming (or 3000 minutes, not sure on that). So, if you don't use it A LOT, the 99 cent plans is good.

Now I got a brand new dilemma: which VOIP service to chose?
