Re: Frontier Connecitcut Deal Approved By FCC - 7/25/14said by Bigman68:I noticed that my public IP has changed tonight to a completely different one, the first time that has happened to me on Uverse. I wonder if this is the part of them getting us prepped for the transfer over to Frontier? I talked to a few people a few days ago about this. 4 days ago I noticed that I received a new IP overnight. No new VRAD card, no new RG, no drop in sync, no errors, nothing, just a new IP. I went from an IP starting with 99. to one with 32. I talked to some other people in CT, but they said they didn't notice anything different. This is the first time I see someone saying that. My new IP is under "AT&T Wireless." My VRAD no longer shows my VRAD hop as (99. IP Address).lightspeed.---ct.sbcglobal.net(99. IP Address) and it now just shows just the IP, starting with 32. |

my IP address changed recently (I am away on vacation, use dyndns manually, apple airport so no automatic scripting to update the alias).
everything broke when I was away and the RG needed a hard reboot .. my nephew rebooted it and things started working again but the IP address changed. He is going to login and tell me the new IP address and I will update dyndns through the web.
Before that happened I was able to turn on IPV6 but not get it to work through my airport, i.e. the dsl reports config didn't work (possibly because of Frontier infra differences).
I was going to delve into it but am strongly thinking about moving back to OOL ... |

Here's the press release: » investor.frontier.com/re ··· D=865840"August 12, 2014 Frontier Communications Reaches Acquisition-Related Agreement with Connecticut Attorney General and Office of Consumer Counsel Agreement includes rate benefits for customers, $63 million to improve broadband capabilities, and sustained community support STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Frontier Communications Corporation (NASDAQ:FTR) has reached an agreement with the Connecticut Attorney General and the Office of Consumer Counsel (OCC) that will guarantee customer and community benefits resulting from Frontier's proposed acquisition of AT&T's incumbent local exchange operations and statewide fiber network that provides services to residential, commercial and wholesale customers in Connecticut. As part of the transaction, Frontier will also acquire AT&T's U-verse video and satellite TV operations in Connecticut. "We are pleased to have reached this settlement agreement with the Attorney General's Office and the OCC," said Paul Quick, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Frontier Connecticut. "The agreement will provide tangible benefits for Connecticut customers and communities and moves us closer to serving customers in the state that has been home to our corporate headquarters since 1946," noted Quick. Highlights of the agreement state that for a period of not less than 36 months after the closing of the transaction (i) there will be no increases in the basic primary residential rate in effect for transferred exchanges as of the closing date; and (ii) where available, Frontier has agreed to offer its basic broadband and stand-alone basic broadband product at or below Frontier's current prices. In addition, Frontier has committed to incremental capital investments totaling $63 million over 2015, 2016 and 2017 to expand and improve broadband in Connecticut. Frontier will also accelerate its inspection of the outside plant it is acquiring, including telephone poles, to ensure the reliability and robustness of the facilities. Frontier has also agreed to a number of important measures aimed at simplifying and improving telephone pole administration within its Connecticut footprint. A key component of its agreement with the Attorney General and the OCC builds on Frontier's existing support of veterans' programs. Frontier has committed to reach out to Connecticut's veteran population through targeted job fairs and to collaborate with the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) to improve the adoption and use of the VA's MyHealtheVet and home Telehealth. Frontier will also work with the Attorney General and the OCC to identify and implement ways to reach eligible low-income veterans to provide them with subsidized broadband service. Frontier will also become an active participant in Connecticut's charitable community. The company is already a 2014 Platinum Sponsor of the Connecticut Open Presented by United Technologies and the UCONN Athletics' Football and Men's and Women's Basketball programs. The full agreement must be approved by the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA). Please click here to view the Settlement Agreement. About Frontier Communications Frontier Communications Corporation (NASDAQ:FTR) offers broadband, voice, satellite video, wireless Internet data access, data security solutions, bundled offerings, specialized bundles for residential customers, small businesses and home offices and advanced communications for medium and large businesses in 27 states. The deal between the AG and Frontier was shot down by PURA. This is not to say that it won't got thru, just that it may take a bit longer than the end of Oct like the ATT site is telling current customers. |

They are now using the phrase "Frontier TV powered by AT&T U-verse." This makes me wonder if AT&T likes their UVerse brand more than DirecTV. Unless they use UVerseTV powered by DirecTV? |

So NOT still required by regulations to sell you POTS if you ask for it?
Does the sale to Frontier, already bring the "opportunity" to truly hangup on bunches of POTS customers (never upgraded to uverse), leaving them with no service? |

I have two separate bills, one for Uverse internet and a second for the non Uverse phone service. |

You can choose whether to have POTS (more expensive and more reliable) or U-Verse VOIP with U-Verse VDSL service.
There's no way that they can just stop providing service in CT. DPUC would flip. |

If you let your DSL service go or move in and try and order new service ATT won't sell it. They want you to get ATT wirele$s. Also they make it very hard to get POTS. They push Uverse if its there or their home wireless device. ATT is a company that only wants to do wireless. Frontier has no wireless so im hoping they will SELL every product they can. Old school ADSL2 is better then NOTHING or 10gig capped LTE. Old POTS is better then the cheesy wireless thing. Especially up in the litchfield hills and the quiet corner where power goes out often during the winter and cell service is iffy. |

Got my postcard from AT&T about the sale today and looked through Frontier's expanded FAQ list (many more details than what was there a few months ago). Most changes will not affect me in the short term, but the start of the UVerse TV channel purge will convince me to drop the HD Premium Tier once the NFL season is over. I was one of the few that did get some use out of the Comcast Sportsnet channels (transplanted Chicago sports fan). I expect some soccer fans will not be happy about losing the beIN sports channels. quote: Effective on October 25, 2014, we will carry the same channel lineup you have now, with the exception of the following low viewership channels which will be discontinued (listed in alphabetical order): aapka Colors (channel 3712), beIN Sports (channels 662 and 3120 and 1662, and 3320 in HD), beIN Sports Espanol (channels 663 and 3119, and 1663 and 3319 in HD), Comcast SportsNet Bay Area HD (channel 1770), Comcast SportsNet California HD (channel 1767), Comcast SportsNet Chicago HD (channel 1741), EPIX 2 (channel 893 and 1893 in HD), EPIX Drive In (channel 896), EPIX West (channel 892 and 1892 in HD), Liquidation Channel (channels 399 and 1399), Longhorn Network (channel 611 and 1611 in HD), MTV India (channel 3709), RFD TV (channel 568), Time Warner Cable Sportsnet HD (channel 1777), TVBe (channel 3638), TVB-V (channel 3664).
As a result of the above changes, effective on the date of migration, we will also be reducing the price of the S Asian TV package from $35 to $30 per month, and eliminating the Vietnamese TV Package (current subscribers to this package will be moved to the SBTN package at $15 per month from $20 per month).

Everyone keeps talking about AT&T going IP-only. You do realize that most DSL is IP, right? Only a few areas (like my neighborhood's RDSLAM here in CT) are left on ATM, and those will eventually get moved over to IP I'm sure. Frontier plans on doing more U-Verse, unfortunately. I wish that they would do it right and put in GPON and rip out the copper.
Also, AT&T currently serves about half of CT with semi-decent internet connectivity. Cable serves 100% of CT with fast internet. I think everywhere in CT now has at least 50mbps on cable. Hopefully that gives Frontier some incentive to upgrade and compete, but at least if they don't, people can still get cable. |

Got a postcard in the mail yesterday from AT&T informing me about the transition the Frontier "as early as late October". Went on the updated Frontier website and disappointed to see that for voice mail Frontier will not longer support voice to text capability. I will miss being able to just read voice mail from my iPad. |

They will be able to go to 45mbps in certain locations with U-Verse, but that's still too slow to really compete with cable. If they want to really compete, they are going to have to lay a LOT of fiber. |
