Check if phone is compatible with WindMobile?

Hi,

Sorry if this is not the appropriate forum for this question. If so can you please direct me to the right section?

Question: How to verify if a smartphone is compatible voice & data with WindMobile network? Example: Xiaomi M3: »www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_ ··· 5678.php

Thanks very much in advance for any help.

That one is not compatible, you need 1700 and 2100mhz frequencies in the phones to work on Wind.

Ok thanks, So I suppose the 1+1 is compatible then:

If so would that imply that it's compatible voice and data? I would appreciate some education. Do voice & data use the same spectrum?

Yes Voice and Data on Wind uses the same frequency.

Look for phones that indicate HSPA 2100 AND 1700 compatibility. Sometimes both 2100 and 1700 are just listed as AWS. Some phones may list 2100 amongst other frequencies that are not 1700. Those are not compatible with Wind so be sure to check closely.

Seeing as they are a fair bit larger than Wind, another thing to look for is if it is compatible with T-Mobile. If it will work with them it will work with Wind.

That used to be the case but not necessarily anymore. They now run 1900 for HSPA and AWS for LTE just like AT&T and Robellus, so the whole compatibility aspect is all over the place.

A better way to phrase it is any variant that T-Mobile sells will be compatible with Wind. Even though 1900 HSPA is available in select markets AWS is still the prominent band used by T-Mobile for HSPA and as a result all the phones they sell support AWS HSPA.

That's also not entirely true, as T-Mobile has (and may still) as of last year sell phones that will only do HSPA on 850/1900.

And with LTE now being rolled out, AWS has become secondary to 1900 for HSPA, at least as far as how T-Mobile probably sees it.

There are many markets that still do not have 1900 HSPA. Most T-Mobile phones these days are pentaband and will support AWS and 1900 HSPA as well as a few other bands. I don't believe T-Mobile sold any phones that do HSPA on 1900 only. T-Mobile's coverage is too limited to justify that.

95% of their 1900Mhz network has been refarmed for HSPA. The lists online are wholly out of date. You can get HSPA on 1900 through most of Western New York even though it doesn't appear on the list of 49 cities. I know this from personal experience.

And they sold an LTE-enabled Galaxy S3 that was HSPA in 1900 only when they first launched LTE.

Not true they launched a Galaxy S3 that was HSPA and EDGE only, and then they launched an LTE variant down the road but it still had pentaband HSPA support.

That came later. When they first enabled LTE in Las Vegas they were selling a varient of the S3 that did HSPA in 1900 and LTE in AWS, similar to the Robellus phones. They did this because they needed an LTE flagship phone for the few markets that had LTE but the T999L didn't come out until later. Since those markets had already been refarmed, it was a non-issue.

Again not true. When T-Mobile launched it's first LTE markets in March 2013 it launched with the Samsung Galaxy S4, Blackberry Z10, HTC One and Galaxy Note 2. The Galaxy S3 (T999) carried my T-Mobile at that time did not support LTE at all, and supported HSPA over the AWS band.

In June of 2013 T-Mobile replaced the Galaxy S3 with a variant (T999L) that does support LTE and also supports pentaband HSPA.

The network was actually up and running prior to March. They had service in Las Vegas and Kansas City at the end of January and the beginning of February.

And this is when I remember them talking about selling the HSPA 1900 version of the S3, because they had no other option for an LTE flagship phone when the network was going live in hard launch. Then again, I never actually bought one, so who knows what they actually did.

First Samsung Galaxy S3 was launched June 21, 2012 with AWS HSPA and EDGE support, no LTE support whatsoever

»newsroom.t-mobile.com/ne ··· e-21.htm

T-Mobile's LTE may have been accessible earlier as it often is when they are testing the network but the official launch was in March 2013

T999L Refresh arrive June 5, 2013 and brings LTE to the S3 and pentaband HSPA
