mind checking this out (if you haven't), and in particular posting your signals? » Comcast High Speed Internet FAQ » How To Get Help!as well, have you tried having the gateway put into bridge mode, to see if that clears things up? (don't have an eMTA, so don't know if they can be bridged; in general bridging is preferable, then use with your own router). All-in-one gateways tend to be unreliable for a lot of people; perhaps getting your own plain eMTA might be worth looking into |

Seeing as the smcd3gnv (if that is what you are using) is a 4x4 channel wireless gateway, it isn't recommended to be using that modem on a 100mbps+ tier. They could be limiting each channel to certain prioritized bandwidth and may be the cause of your slowdown (or congestion).
You have the right idea of getting a new modem, but unless comcast allows you to use customer owned eMTA's in your area (tm822g or tg862g) then you have to call them up or check the local service center with what they can offer you. I mention the tg862 as an option because out of all the gateways that have had problems on here, the arris tg862g has had the least (my friend is renting one without digital voice [for the router] and he has no packet loss or bandwidth issues). |

If those are typical signals, AND all connections are tight, you will likely want a tech visit to work on low downstream power. The modem may not be the problem but more channels will become increasingly important. |

said by sparky007:You got some low power on your downstream. Preferred power levels is +8 thru -8.
Your getting close to the low side of your modem disconnecting. -12 to -14 is usually the cut off point. Your downstream SNRs are also close to the 33 dB minimum recommended for 256QAM carriers. Those should improve when you signal levels are corrected. |

FWIW, some of the signal specs / ranges in those links are older / outdated. CC plant specs are even tighter these days. |

Your signal is too low for one, usually want it above -8 to +8. Also you would be better off with a 8x4 or 16x4 modem from Comcast. |
