Reliable Canadian Based Shared Hosting Providers?I see many Canadian hosting providers when doing a Google search, but I'm weary of the online "reviews". I'm looking to see if any of you have had good experiences with any Canadian based shared hosts to help in my decision making. |

Shared hosting was a race to the bottom. Only the largest players are still in the business. |

I've been with Addaction (U.S.-based) for nearly 10 years, after a spotty first 5 years with various providers. I've been with only one Canadian provider, but the last time I checked they had refocused toward business hosting. |

I have provided some web hosting myself on a casual basis but if you're a business, I'd prefer to refer you directly to my provider ... prioritycolo ... they are based at 151 Front in Toronto. Not the cheapest, but have been the most reliable I've ever used. Many Canadian hosting companies turn out to be resellers of American hosting companies. |

Interesting. I'm looking at my hosting too, because my current host is cheap but mediocre. I'd be happy enough to pay prioritycolo's $210/year (2.5x my current providers rate), but.. Only 600MB of disk space?! Maybe I'm organizing things wrong, but my email is on my host, and that alone is 2GB. EDIT: here's the thread at the webhosting subforum of DSLR » [shared] Reliable Canadian Based Shared Hosting Providers?I think what the previous comment was about is: » www.webhostingtalk.com/ |

I don't keep email on my host ... I use pop3 to pull to my own system. I hate the risk of leaving email on someone else's system. If I lose it, then it's my fault. |

Sure sure, but IMAP! So, I have a copy in both places, and it is all of our faults I could definitely trim down the amount I keep on the server, of course, but... Anyway, don't mean to bug you about their policies! Just that it seems a little out of touch nowadays. I need 5GB to consider it.. |

I've used (and still do) the shared hosting from iWeb (» www.iweb.ca/) in Montreal. A few years ago they re-branded it as Funio (» www.funio.com/). Never had any problems with them and iWeb is a HUGE player in the Canadian market. I'd be more likely (in the future) to get a cheap VPS in Montreal from OVH (» www.ovh.ca/). They're dirt cheap (starting at $3/month) and you get a 10TB on a 100Mbit port. Of course, it's not managed, so I understand why people like shared hosting! |

Now I'm kind of glad I didn't have that choice, because I don't need the extra work! Please don't tempt me |

Actually if you have the time, say have an existing business where you have extra time during the day you can still make some extra income providing hosting for locals. You won't be making $1000 in profits per month but it doable. With cheap servers and VPS from places like OVH you can have multiple backup options. As for a good web host. I've been with Netelligent for about 7 years. I had a dedicated then a reseller account. They split their shared hosting into a different brand » www.citeglobe.ca and I've had almost no issues with them. Id' say maybe a couple tickets in 5 years. |

At my last job, we had a VPS with Fullhost. (They also offer shared hosting.) They were phenomenal. My full review is here: » www.webhostingtalk.com/s ··· =1329989 |

I disagree Plenty of Canadian owned and operated shops left that still offer quality packages with more than 500MB (lol) of space and Canadian based support! |

I use www.davesnetwork.ca and have had no issues with it. It was highly recommended on RedFlagDeals and comes to $100 a year for unlimited space/bandwidth. |

davesnetwork is actually a reseller of wehostwebsites.com of Denver. i.e. the company you're dealing with may be Canadian, but your website is in the US. |
