Netflix has been stellar for the past week. I'm in the MD area.

I've noticed that for about the past week straight, Netflix streaming has been quickly ramping up to HD and staying there. It's simply amazing, and a huge difference from before. I've watched several movies, in the peak (evening and night) hours and it worked flawlessly. Not a single "dip" from HD to SD. I hope it keeps up and I'm not just having a streak of luck.

Is anyone in this area noticing this? Also, how can I see if the new peering arrangements have been enabled for my area?

Without installing anything extra, these steps should work for you:

While watching the video on your PC, the following steps can be used to secure the hostname of the Netflix server you are connecting to:

1. Press windows key + r to open up a run menu
2. type cmd and press enter
3. type netstat -f -p TCP
4. Look for a host similar to ipv4_1.lagg0.c001.phl001.ix.nflxvideo.net

Running a traceroute to that host:

1. In the command prompt window, type: tracert ipv4_1.lagg0.c001.phl001.ix.nflxvideo.net (replace with the hostname you identified)
2. Right click on the command prompt window and click Mark
3. Highlight the area you wish to copy using the left mouse button
4. Right click on the highlighted area to copy
5. Paste results here for analysis

Is your quality also bad using a browser? As indicated in other posts, Netflix assigns a given streaming server, the routing for the stream, and the stream rate based on the client you are using. I just checked using the same PC for IE and the Windows 8 app. Both were assigned to the same server (per netstat) with the same trace route. I quickly got 5800kpbs with IE but got no better 1750kpbs using the Windows 8 app even after waiting over a minute. So the Windows 8 app stream was limited by Netflix but IE wasn't since the server and the routing were the same for both.

You can check the stream rate by viewing the Netflix "Test Pattern" video which you should be able to find by doing a Netflix search. That's how I found it and it's been very useful.

So you might compare the Roku performance with a browser access and see if the browser is better.

Watched a movie tonight and a couple shows. All full HD. I've never seen it this crisp before. I'm in love.
