SmartRG bridge modeOk,
So all set up with VDSL. Speed is the same as I had on cable. Set up was easy once I caught starts typo in the pppoe user/pass in the SmartRG.
I have the SmartRG setup in bridge mode along with my Asus RT-N66U controlling the PPPOE duties. The connection seems flakey; if I reboot my router I lose internet connection when it comes back up requiring a power off/on of the SmartRG to solve it.
Is this normal? Seems like a PITA. I wonder if the setup would be better if the SmartRG was left alone and just put the router in Access point mode instead.
Thoughts?

Doesn't sound normal to me and doesn't happen on mine running in bridge mode.
Have you checked the log file on your modem (if you have logging enabled)? |

I can't log into it at all now. |

From your PC, manually configure the IP and set it to something like 192.168.1.100 with a router of 192.168.1.1 and a netmask of 255.255.255.0.
You should then be able to login to it at 192.168.1.1. |

I gave my router an IP of 192.168.1.3 and left the SmartRG at 192.168.1.1 |

That may be causing issues... I would pick a different subnet for the router than the modem uses. |

Same issue with my setup, reboot only the Asus and you're screwed. SmartRG IP: 140417_1256 at 192.168.100.1 Asus N66-U Merlin 374.42 Asus Advanced settings->WAN->WAN IP Setting: Get the WAN IP automatically: No IP Address: 192.168.100.2 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.100.1 You can access the SmartRG behind the Asus using 192.168.100.1 though. |

I'll give this a go tomorrow. Maybe if I just reverse them? Asus ruter at 192.168.1.1 and SmartRG at 192.168.1.3?

Kryspy Again, that wont work, still the same subnet. Make the Smart 192.168.0.1 and make sure you specify gateways. |

Well since your router is handling the pppoe connection, which is giving you a routable IP, obviously you will lose internet if you reboot the router. That's the whole point of setting the Smart to bridge and letting your router handle the pppoe connection. |

SK10H, Kryspy, are you using Port1 on the SmartRG to plug into your Asus routers?
Try using another port, Port1 on the SmartRG has been known to cause issues with certain devices. |

Try using another port, Port1 on the SmartRG has been known to cause issues with certain devices. +1 Port 1 on the SmartRG has some quirks when working with some manufacturer's devices. If that doesn't work, I would suggest connecting a computer direct to the modem, creating a PPPoE broadband dialer and test to see if the same behaviour occurs with a computer. |

That did the trick, now on port 2 working fine after reboot. I stay at Port1 because I see some people got the Gigabit port on #1, even though mine is regular 100MBps. |

Networking is my achilles heel . SO if I set the SmartRG to 192.168.0.1 and Asus to 192.168.1.1 what do I specifiy for gateways? In regards to losing internet I meant that even after the router comes back up I do not have an internet connection until I reboot the Smartrg. I will try switching ports tomorrow. Thanks Kryspy |

Okay,
Changed SmartRG to 192.168.0.1 and ASUS back to 192.168.1.1. I still cannot access the SmartRG from my network.
What gateway settings do I need to setup?

Here is what I did, and it works just fine. (im not sure if this is the right way though)
First, factory reset the smart rg. Next, plug it to ONLY one computer, and create a single bridge profile (delete any other profile). Next, change the default ip address of smart rg to any ip that falls between the ip range of the asus router. On default, asus set the ip range from 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.254, so I randomly picked 192.168.1.100 to be the ip for my smart rg. I left the subnet mask as it was. That's all. I also manually assigned the same ip address (192.168.1.100) on the asus router for the smart rg. |

So in the end for $20 less a month for the same service and lower pings it's a keeper.
I can safely call start tomorrow to disconnect cable.
