Online gaming (Twitch Shooters, and other time sensitive games) on a satellite internet connection will be an aweful experience for you due to terribly high latency/lag. This is due to the time it takes for data to travel to and from the satellite in space. Satellite has always suffered from this and that's why gamers avoid it, if at all possible. Having low latency in twitch shooters like CoD is important to winning most, if not all gun fights. You are looking at being seconds behind your cable, DSL, and other low latency broadband competitors. Anything that is time sensitive will suffer when using satellite internet such as Skype, VoIP, online gaming, etc. I've heard that people can still play MMO type games and Facebook games without much trouble. If you can avoid using satellite Internet then by all means do so. If you can't, then go with Excede, not HughesNet!
Do you have any other options available to you such as a local WISP (Wireless ISP) or even a decent cellular data connection with a moderate data cap? |
